crank it up??

Guest 14 March 2005 02:03:11
Just wanted to find out if there were any NASCAR fans out there who actually
get excited and turn up the volume on the TV when they tell us to crank it
up?

I do at talladega. Ya gotta love that big ROAR when the pack goes by.
Otherwise, I don't bother.

Right! Talladega has a sound all of it's own.

I agree. At least with a live mic feed from all the way around the track,
the sound of the cars would drown out DW and Larry Mac.

They're *ok* as far as Cup/NBS cars (restricted engines sound sour IMO), but
when the trucks run there (Daytona I guess, they don't run at Tally in CTS
IIRC), now THAT'S the sound. Unrestricted V8 horsepower. It's a lovely
thing.

You want nice sound, try turn 1 during Q at Atlanta this week. They'll be
approaching 200 mph going into T1 this week on good tires if the track is
empty or uncrowded in front of them. And there'll be no restrictor plates
robbing any power OR sound.

To get a little off topic here, the sound of the Indy cars at Indianapolis
is always unique. One of the best places to stand is inside the track
anywhere between turns three and four. I swear you can hear the cars
cutting through the air before you hear the engine sound. tjmc, who used to
post here first mentioned it. I really didn't believe it until I went up
there. It is best heard when there are only a few cars on the track during
practice or qualifying. Of course, the sound on the front straightaway,
nearing turn one is also great, echoing off of the grandstands.
