[IDEAS] How to Improve NASCAR

The Ikon That Can Still Go 3 March 2005 18:50:07
I'd love to hear your input on what you feel is wrong with NASCAR, what
is right, what you would love to see changed and what new ideas you may
have.

I'd like to see them incorporate more athleticism in the sport, and to
also make it more widely appealing. As it is, it is rather niche like
hockey, and it isn't really a sport - it's about on the level of golf.

However, with a legitimate star, and big money backing it up, I think
it could blow up with the mainstream.

We did that last year. I remember some of my suggestions though

1) Go back to the old points and do away with the 10 race playoff system.
2) Re-think which tracks they are using and in which order. Is there value
to nostalgia?
3) Can something be done to remove restrictor plates from the big tracks?
If so, what?
4) Can fuel injection be brought into NASCAR?
5) Can traction control and other new technologies be brought into NASCAR?
New cars that are on the track (Monte Carlo, Taurus, etc.) have these
kinds of technologies.
6) Should different points be awarded, such that it is better to win races
than be consistant? Do fans want to see winners?
7) Should NASCAR restrict Cup drivers from racing Busch? Seems like the
same drivers race on Saturday and Sunday - does this sacrifice Busch having
it's own fan base that is separate from
Cup?

Yeah, Schumacher and that old school Senna guy are the only Nascar guys
that have really been popular.

They could shorten the season to about 30 weeks but run two races each week.
60 races would be just right.

4) Can fuel injection be brought into NASCAR?

It appears that NASCAR is looking into an aluminum block overhead cam fuel
injected engine. The considerable savings in size and weight over the 55
Chevy engine they are using now will go into crush panels all around the
car. The whole car will be one moving SAFER barrier.

Tear up half of the 1-1/2 and 2 mile tri ovals and build another
Bristol or Richmond.

Reusable airbags. They deploy, then in an instant they repackage
themselves and are ready for the next deployment.

get rid of helton , go back to the old points system , bring back
north wilksboro
get rid of restrictor plates. get rid of testing. race on labor day at
darlington
bring back cars like those we drive on the streets. quit the stupid
fines for a driver swearing on tv. bring back espn. i want to see
drivers who have the skill to drive a crappy car and not depend on all
the tweaking bs in the pits. get rid of the stupid rule that says if
you blow the motor in qualifying and change it you got to go to the
back of the feild. have one set of rules set in stone for the entire
season.

Well then, how telling is that statement. Please, share with us at what time
did EITHER of those two drivers ever suit up and run a NASCAR event.

Here's a NASCAR stat site to help you out: www.racing-reference.com

I'd appreciate a link to M. Schumacher's and A. Senna's stats on that site
please.

 1. Too many has beens and no talents in the cup series. Something
must be done to weed these drivers out, so that new blood can come in.
If a driver consistently causes wrecks ... week after week, then he is
banned from the series. I'd call it the John Andretti rule.

2. Ban cup drivers from the Busch series.

3. Busch series cars would get 3.5L Turbo V6 engines

4. Kill the Has-Been Truck series

1) Run real stock cars and engines as delivered from the factory, with
modifications only for safety. A manufacturer would be required to sell x
thousand retail copies of a stock car in the previous year in order for it to
race in the current year. Or change the name to NACCAR since they currently
run cookie cutter custom cars.
2) The restrictor plate problem would be solved with the implementation of #1
3) Move Cup races to Saturday night, Busch races to Friday night. If a track
isn't equipped for night racing take it off the circuit.
4) Remove all provisionals, either qualify or don't race that week. If
qualifying is rained out set the grid according to the top 43 in driver
points.
5) Remove all driver substitutions. If a driver is too sick or too big of a
weiner to finish the race then load his car on the hauler and leave.
6) Require all fans attending a race to prove they have a dentist.

1. Get rid of restrictor plates. If princess jeffy is stupid enough to
go into turn 1 at Daytona or Talladega at 200+ MPH, he certaintly
deserves to be a greasy stain in his seat.

2. Stock apperaing stock cars.

3. The 5 and 5 rule.

4. More road courses.

5. A fair points system.

Get rid of the boring cookie cutter tracks, and readd tracks like
Rockingham, North Wilksboro, and other small tracks.

Have a roadblock during the race when the drivers have to perform a task.
They should have a choice between 2 or 3 different task.
