FOX announcers are goofy

Galloping.Moron 21 February 2005 15:37:57
The were talking all about how Tony Stewart is America's greatest driver
because he goes to some Podunk tracks and beats the pants off of tow truck
drivers who do not even know the correct line around the track.

Jeff Gordon has four Cups, three Daytonas, and four Brickyards.

Tony Stewart has one lone Cup and always comes up short in the big races at
the big tracks.

It is true that Jeff Gordon has had more NASCAR seasons than Tony Stewart so
perhaps he is only eight times better than Stewart rather than eleven times
better.

Nope they arent goofy they are right. And if you would have watched the
Busch race you would know why. And do you even follow racing outside of
just Cup?? To go and beat dirt guys at their home track is hard.
Espically if you are not racing there often. I would like to see Jeff
do some of that stuff. He really only races in Cup. Is he a little to
scared that he is gonna get beat by those guys who race on the dirt.

It never ceases to amaze me that the experts here in RASN
only have experience of a few years.
CRU-Jeff Gordon has been racing for 28 years TonyFan
and is younger than TS!

A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti both won the Daytona 500 and Indy. Tony
Stewart has won nothing of the sort.

Get your facts straight.

Far better Robert? Um, I think there are a couple drivers that may > disagree> with you. Better? Maybe. Far better? I think Newman can give him a run> for his money just about anywhere they'd like to go, and with the > exception> of an Indy car(maybe), in any type of race car.>

Ryan may very well give Tony a run but fact is Tony has the accumulated
stats where Jeff and Ryan and many of the other just don't. I'd love to see
Jeff and Ryan and a few other competitively race in other forms of motor
sport. I think Jeff for example could be very competitive in open wheel but
again Tony is the only one who can say "been there done that."

I have been a Newman fan for years, going back to his open wheel days.

I have to say that I hadn't heard of Ryan prior to his doing the ABC program
for Penske. I just don't follow any of the other forms of racing like I do
the Cup, BGN and NCTS. Unfortunately, not enough time! *g* Anyway, since
joining Newman's fan club though, and getting the letters from there, the
"Benchracing with Bo", and reading more and more about Ryan's career before
Cup. Man, that kid could drive! Still can of course. One that sticks out
in my mind is this excerpt

" In 1999 Ryan raced in 47 events. He won 12 feature races and finished in
the Top Five in 28 of them. He was the fast qualifier in ten events and
finished in the top three in 26 preliminary races.

Highlight of the year was winning the United States Auto Club Coors Light
Silver Bullet (say Champ Car) national championship. Only Jeff Gordon won
that title at a younger age; Gordon was 20, a year younger than Ryan, when
he captured the champ-car crown in 1991. Both champions drove cars owned by
Fred Ede of Fresno, California, in their title years.

Nearly as impressive was Ryan's finishing 2nd, behind Jason Leffler, in the
USAC national midget championship because Ryan drove only one dirt-track
race all year. "

And especially this part!

"He extended his Winchester midget winning streak to an astonishing seven in
a row despite having his throttle stick open on lap 27 of the 33-lap October
USAC feature and driving the last six laps by turning the ignition switch
off and on. "

PS - I have this set to send in plain text, even though as I'm looking at
it, it's changed the font in the above part. Hopefully it doesn't come
through in html, my apologies if it does.
