When Will NASCAR Force The #3 To Race Again?

America is #1 1 March 2005 00:08:19
They can't keep that number on the sidelines, forever, and since
NASCAR's greatest driver of the last 20 years is driving the #24 and
will pass Earnhick's win totals, there's really no need to keep that
number out of circulation, since almost all NASCAR fans no longer car
who drove it.

Earnhardt who? It's the Gordon era.

I love it when people show there stupidity to the world. Nascar doesn't own
the number 3, therefore, they cannot keep it on the sidelines. RCR still
owns the rights to that number. you'll see it again, this year, on some
anniversary show cars for RCR and Chevrolet.
By the way, the drivers don't own the car numbers, the car owners do.

No, you stupid fucking toothless hick.

NASCAR owns all the numbers.

Think about it.
RCR still> owns the rights to that number.

Now you get it. Rights are not absolute ownership. They're just a
license for a period of time.

No, dumbass. NASCAR owns the numbers.

When did they change that Tommy? In that the car owners "own" the> numbers, not Nascar? Because if that's the case, then they certainly> did change the rule.>
Nascar always owned the numbers, and leased them out to team owners. > The team was required to run that number at least 5 times per year, or> risk losing it. IOW, if they didn't run it and someone else wanted> it, it was up for grabs.>
When RP retired, he thought Nascar would retire the number 43, but> they said no, they do NOT retire numbers. They allowed the 43 to not> run on anything for one year. Then Richard was required to run it if> he wanted to keep it. >
When Sr. died, Nascar put a moratorium on allowing RCR to not run it> for one year.... apparently they've continued that moratorium.

Maybe, maybe not.

Maybe nobody's asked for that number.

Maybe nobody's asked for that number.

Can you imagine the fan backlash if anybody but an Earnhardt or RCR
tried to run that number??? And even RCR might get a fan backlash...

Exactly.
Childress doesn't have to do anything
NASCAR doesn't have to do anything

No team will try and run that number right now. Maybe in a few years, but
not now. I think the time is coming that the number will be given to
somebody else, if they ask for it.

And a question for Shawn, do you think anybody would have tried to run the
#43 after Richard retired? At least for the first few years?
