I now understand why Gibbs got rid of Fatback

Richmond Times-Dispatch

TEMPERS FLARE: Rudd and Casey Mears made contact during last night's final
Shootout practice. Mears' Dodge spun without incident, and both cars avoided
significant damage. Mears visited Rudd's garage stall to apologize and drew
angry words from Michael McSwain, Rudd's burly crew chief.

"I thought I was clear, and I wasn't," Mears said. "It was my fault. Ricky was
cool, but [McSwain] needs to calm down a little bit. Stuff happens."

Rudd said a minor wrinkle to his "super sensitive" right-front fender could
affect his Ford's handling tonight but accepted Mears' apology.

"It's very easy to make a mistake when you're running three wide like that,"
Rudd said. "It's intense."

You understand what? That all the work Fatback and the team put into that
car during the offseason should just be shrugged off due to an idiot move?
A half an hour later Fatback was cool with the situation. Don't be a putz
and try to take emotion out of the deal.

There was no need to react that way. As Casey said 'stuff happens' and
Fatback knows stuff happens. I'm sure he himself has done stupid stuff
on many occasions. Rudd was cool with the apology and Fatback was a
jackass. He is no longer with Gibbs because of that very type of thing.

Btw, I don't agree with being a jackass for the sake of 'emotion'. What
Fatback did was nothing more than trailer-park attitude. I for one don't
like seeing that in NASCAR or any sport. 'Emotion' does not mean NASCAR
should be a WWE event.

I don't think Tony has acted that way toward someone who is 'apologizing'.

That's the default answer for the driver in the wrong. When crew chiefs and
mechanics have to have a PR rep then that's when I stop watching.

Also, Fatback lost his job for having a hateful attitude toward his own
teammates and co-workers. In that way, I think the difference between
him and Tony is night and day.

Fatback needs a PR rep to control his hateful attitude? The default answer
is that stuff happens when plate-racing three-wide. Fatback knows that
better than anyone. There was no sense in being a jackass about it but I
think that's what Fatback likes to do.

But see public demeanor means nothing to Gibbs. He is in it to win
races and Tony does that every year. And ya know what Tony doesn't blow
when someone goes to apology to him. So Tony can be an jack a$$ all he
wants but he wins races and that is what racing is all about.
