Per Democrats, Bush's Social Security plan to get them coming and going

Guest 5 February 2005 22:56:07
They say it will take away from both the retirees and those who are
just beginning their SS careers. And it doesn't surprise me at all
that that is just what is going to happen. SS has been looted for
years to pay for governmental projects instead of staying in the trust
fund for the contributors. Sure, "they" say that it is all backed by
bonds and infrastructure, but who is going to buy something like I95?

This privatation thingy is just another hole for money to disappear
into. No safeguards to make sure that it is on the up and up.

Here's the deal then JS. You don't need it do you? You already have a
401K. Why not just have the Guvmint tell you; "say boy, we are going to
reduce your social security taxes. Do what you want with the reduction."

Because the individual savings rate in the US is the lowest in history.

Individual investment will breed prosperity.

It's broken, so, don't fix it. Interesting plan.

How exactly is privatization supposed to help the US pay promised
benefits?

By directly lowering the number of recipients for SS welfare
proportional to the smart younger people who opt out of the
full SS program. They thus guarantee that their privately-
owned retirement account cannot be hijacked by the government
... even AFTER they die.

That doesn't answer the question of how these private accounts are
going to help fund benefits already promised.

Sounds like a wash to me Jeannie. You keep it from them, they keep it
from you. Where is the savings for the system?

I don't see it. Either way, I think the majority of us will still
be screwed.

Who are you talking to? How do you expect anyone to know, when you
wiped out the post you were repsonding to?

Assuming it was me, yes, I have relatives collecting Social Security.
Does this mean that I should lie to myself and tell myself that it
isn't welfare? Why?
