Something with a lot of space between you and the outside world. There's a
50-50 chance you're going to hit something the first year because of lack of
experience behind the wheel.

A '74 Pinto hatchback that hates oil and spits it on the ground as fast
as you can pour it in but runs forever until your college friend borrows
it and forgets to check the water and melts the intake head during a
weekend trip to Ohio with some of his buddies. In the end, you will at
least get a couple hundred for it as metal scrap. :D

A big heavy truck with a 6 cylinder. Lots of metal to protect you and you
won't get any tickets for excessive acceleration.

The 1972 Pinto was my first car. Did the 1974 have the exposed gas tank?

In my experience, Chevy Corsica's (90's plus) seem to last forever.
Definitely a car I would've bought...

But, my first car, was an '82 Firebird. And, I can tell you, /never/ buy
one of those unless it's in MINT (or near) condition. Otherwise, it's a
money pit. Less you have money to spend.

Otherwise, I'd say find you a vehicle that is fuel economic-like.
Considering the cost to fuel up these days.....

I think the '74 also had the 'exploding' gas tank problem. I don't think> any Pinto was ever marketed/sold with a 'gas tank lining' fix.>

Yes they did fix the problem. AFAIK they added a piece of steel between the
tank and the rear of the car to prevent punctures and thereby preventing
explosions.

IIRC, It was the Corvair that was never fixed; instead it was dropped from
production.

Good suggestion. Though mine had a V8, that was my first *car*, a 1977 full
size Chevy 1500 (a Cheyenne maybe?) That thing was a war horse...still
wished I had it in some ways. Of course I turned 16 in the early-mid 80s so
that particular truck wasn't that old at the time...

have a preference in make? (ford, chevy, dodge, jap, etc)
