That is some real dedication, La Vonna. You'll still be easy to spot
at the races wearing your 2 gear. :)

Hop on the Reed Sorensen bandwagon now.

Ricky Rudd jokes would no doubt be inappropriate at this time.

Maybe Rusty will win the Cup and decide on one more year. :)

Well, that still wouldn't do me any good.....I still couldn't watch him race
in 2006, because the shock of 'that' happening would KILL me!

You'll find a new favorite to watch after a year or two...probably
without even realizing it's happened (just as I did when Pearson
retired, or Harry Gant, or Kulwicki was lost, etc)

 Dear Sista "La", ;-)

You have received some really heartfelt empathy; listen to them. I know
I am close to going through the same with DJ. So I:

Prioritize:
#1 Love Racing above all.

#2 Rusty will retire alive, with an awesome racing career. Think how
his life will find
new happiness with family, friends, and many other avenues. You will
miss him; but his focus may bring him more rewards that even he cannot
foresee. Be happy for him.

#3 While I often ache missing DE and painfully watch DJ struggle, I
realize that there are many
other drivers to watch, cheer for, and fill the void. I will never
place all my joy of racing in one driver. I have a stable, top five,
top ten, and so forth. I have never been a Rusty fan,
but would I love to see him finish in the the top five, or win it all
this year? HELL YES!

~linda~ "good racing" will keep you here;
you are the one with the ultimate passion, remember? If you forget,
I'll be here to
remind you! Trust me.

It's next season I don't look forward to. Besides being a rusty fan, >> there are way too many old school drivers retiring all at the same time.>
I am extremely dissapointed to see the season start without Ward being in > a full time ride. Is Ward working on finding a ride? His website > doesn't indicate anything one way or the other.

I'm sure he is but he's floated from ride to ride on and off his entire
career. I guess this will be the first season he hasn't started with a
ride. There are just way too many younger, questionably talented drivers
out there right now and the sponsors what someone who they can build a long
term image around so the older guys find them on the wrong side of NASCAR's
growth.

I could go for that! At the very least, I'd like to get an autograph from
him. I am not an autograph seeker, never really cared one way or the other
about having someones signature (unless it's on a check made out to me ;-),
but I would like to meet him, just once. I still have a shot I guess, I'll
be at Infineon Raceway and I'll be at the Phoenix night race....so, there's
a small chance that it will still happen.

It's hard when you're used to having hockey to watch all winter long...
and then every time you here about the league and the players'
association getting together, your hopes get up just to get let down
again... some say if they come to an agreement by March, they can do a
playoff yet this year... I'd be happy with that! :) Yzerman's said if
they don't play this year, he'll just retire since he was going to after
next year anyway... he's been with Detroit his whole career, so that's
going to be hard to take when it does happen...

Yep... Rusty is gonna have Jamie and Jeremy driving his Busch car this
year and my guess is that his son, Steven, will take that over shortly.
Rusty is gonna be around the track for sure... and judging by the
amount of time he spent behind the microphone towards the end of last
season, I think he may even try to get into the TV end of the business.

Oh I agree, I just think it is sad that the players are being a bunch
of whiny little bitches over a salary cap that is BADLY needed.
