| SVO...poor acceleration and stalling problems Dougcullen@Gmail.Com 05:46:21 |
| | I have a question about my 1982 300SD 240K that's been converted to run SVO. Please respond especially if you're knowledgable in the veggie oil systems world. The symptom: The car has extremely poor acceleration - you have to floor it for about 4 to 5 seconds to get it to move from a dead stop. In the first half hour of driving though, once the car is actually moving, it does have some power. However, after things warm up a bit, it quickly starts to lose power, and when you come to a stop, the engine will stall. My mechanic noticed that the fuel pump in the trunk for the veggie tank was excessively hot, whereas it should only be getting warm to the touch. How likely is it that a stronger and more efficient fuel pump would solve the acceleration problem? Does it make sense that the car would progressively lose power if the pump was getting overheated / overworked? Also, it may be significant to note that i'm unable to switch the car back to diesel at this point, most likely because the solenoid switch is broken. So, it is starting and stopping on veggie at this point, which seems like it might be fine in the summer months. The previous owner was the one who did the conversion...
work that has recently been done by my mechanic (who doesn't understand veggie systems):
replaced timing chain removed diesel tank and tank filter and cleaned them cleaned diesel fuel lines spent a month and a half not doing too much at all with my car

| Replacing Oil Pressure Sensor/ VDO or FAE TIm Burns 02:19:23 |
| | The oil pressure gauge on my 81 380sl w/150k miles is staying pegged at 3 bars until the oil warms up, and acts erratically after that. Since the oil level is fine, and none of the other gauges are erratic, I'm assuming it's the sender, rather than the gauge or a ground. But even if it isn't, the sender needs to be replaced sooner of later anyway. So I might as well start there.
I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the FAE sender, since its about $30 less than the VDO sender.
Thanks very much in advance.

| Widening Tires MMansilla 19:39:36 |
| | I will soon replace my tires and I'm investigating. I would like to increase the width to improve the handling of my heavy 124, while keeping the wheelґs diameter the same (for transmission and speedometer precision). As you may know, this is only possible by lowering the tire's section height (currently 195/65 R15). WIth a lower section height the tire's deformation is less, and so it has lower capacity to absorb energy, therefore the ride should be rougher. If it is so, does tire manufacturers do something to compensate this loss, like improving the quality of the tireґs materials/rubbers? Is it advisable to lower the tireґs section height? Thanks

| Trunk lock doesn't open on '84 300 SD and alarm activating Guest 04:44:21 |
| | I recently have had the onset of the trunk not unlocking with the door keys when I unlock the driver's door. Eventually, it did open after jostling with the trunk lid for awhile, and I placed some stuff in the trunk that I need to access NOW. So, the keys that I have for the auto do not unlock the trunk but the trunk locked with the door key. I don't know if the keys I have are valet keys (they look original with one having red plastic elevated knobs on either side below the key ring hole). I actually have the car at a paint and body shop and they are trying to access the side moulding in the trunk. When I returned there today with the other key, the alarm activated when I opened the unlocked passenger door, and it continues to go off after I try to get in the trunk with either of my keys when I open the driver's door again. Can anyone shed any light on this?

| Navigation: can't input specific address?? Devon 17:47:06 |
| | I recently acquired a 2000 S500, and I've found that while the navigation system will let me input a specific address (house no.), it then forces me to choose from a list of address ranges (e.g., 101-149, 150-199, etc.). I assume I must be missing something? Or is the system just old and not as precise as others I've used?
Thanks for any help! Devon

| 2002 E-320 driver side visor James O'Riley 17:46:08 |
| | The visor on the driver's side makes a very loud "crack" when closed from the half/full open position; otherwise no sound. This seems to happen regardless of the angle, extension or inserted in the right end holder. Any idea what might be causing this? It doesn't appear that the rod can be easily accessed.
Thanks...

| 86 300SDL Engine Won't Shut Off Eddie 17:07:49 |
| | I recently stored my car for several months and prior to this I added a fuel preservative to the tank. I now must operate the emergency switch to shut off the engine. Will this problem correct itself after the fuel additive is out of the system or do I have a problem that requires servicing? I have read somewhat about this problem and wonder whether I may have a vacuum problem with the shut off valve. If so where is the valve located and is it easy to check? Door locks operate OK. What might be a ballmark cost for the dealer to repair?
Thanks

| 450 SLC parts car (maybe) Steve 05:47:23 |
| | I've got a chance to buy a '73 450 SLC. It'll be a parts car, and I plan on keeping the engine, trans, bumpers, and lenses. I'll be looking at the car next week, and will need to make a fast decision. I'd like to know if there is enough interest in the remaining parts to make it worth while. Prices will be very reasonable. Let me know what you'd be interested in.

| High Speed Vibration John 14:54:19 |
| | I have a 1991 300 SL with 104,000 miles which vibrates when the cars is running between 60 to 75 mph. The vibration can be felt through the steering wheel and by a passenger. Above or below the range, the vibration is not felt. I had the set of tires which had about 9000 miles, re-balanced and rotated, it didn't help; I had the steering damper replaced by my MB service garage, this didn't help but the mechanic recommended getting the wheels rebalance as he did agree there was a problem and didn't like the fact that the wheel weights were add only on the inside of the wheels; I next had MB Dealer rebalance this MAY have helped for a few miles but not for long. In frustration I replaced the tires with a well known National Brand with the series recommended by this Manufacture. The problem still persist. The MB garage I use for repairs has a lot of experience. I would think if there was a problem with the steering or drive train, one of the mechanics could identify the problem This is getting expensive. Looking for suggestions as to the next step?

| 350 SDL normal temp range J. Frank Freeman 09:42:02 |
| | I have just purchased my second 1991-350, my first was an SD, my recently purchased is an SDL with only 76,000 miles. The car is in mint condition. My first cars temperature during in town driving on hot days (90-95F) ranged 100- 120 C, I was never comfortable with this, I replaced radiator and thermostat and helped this somewhat. My current SDL is up to the same old tricks, the owners manual states than in town severe condition driving can approach the red mark. I would appreciate any feedback on this subject. Thanks in Advance, Frank

| Z4 M vs Boxster S vs SLK 55 RichAsianKid 01:55:43 |
| | Which of the above is the best roadster? What do people think?
Here's a Russian article. Can anyone translate this. http://bmw.carclub.ru/articles/allarticles/0000004340/
I'm not sure which one I'd choose. I probably lean towards the Z4 M, but Boxster S has probably better handling. Recently Boxster S won vs Z4M in a comparo. SLK 55 has nice hardtop but no manual, but has presence (read: chicksmobile?) from the front like the SLR. I think all are winners. Any thoughts?
