My problem has been solved by re-progamming. It was needed because of an EIS that's been changed.

| Check Engine Light on 1994 E420 does not light up Guest 07:05:18 |
| | My recently purchased 94 E420 check engine light does not light up when I turn the ignition on without starting (all lights come on except the CE and opposite side first lamp). Was this disabled by dealer or last owner? And how can I check it?
Thanks, Fredrik
BTW-- this car rockets even at 175K miles old, burns no oil and beats out S500 due to lighter chassis, I shopped a 97 E430 and it didn't feel like a Mercedes the way W124s do.

| Sluggish C220 W203 Xmnut 00:35:29 |
| | Hi, I have just bought an October 2002 C220 CDi Classic Automatic. I have a problem that it feels sluggish and kickdown is not working. I forced the gears to downshift using the gearshift lever but it does not help as I cant get the engine to run above 3000 revs. Any advice would be appreciated before I take it back to the dealer on Monday. Thanks Peter

| Anyone drive a B200? Impressions? Guenter Scholz 23:32:51 |
| | seems my wife being ever practical appears to like this model the most. On the positive side, if I must have an automatic, then at least this model has one of the continuously variable one.... that's got to help on consumption. I'm wondering though if the turbo is even worthwhile for a multifunction all around useful car which it will be.
Any feedback appreciated
cheers, guenter

| Mercedes-approved tires? Kalman Rubinson 18:14:32 |
| | I am about to replace the tires on my 2002 C320 Wagon and I have researched a number of options, in addition to simply replacing the mediocre Contis.
However, since this vehicle is leased from MBUSA, I want to be sure that the replacement tires are OK. The service rep at the dealer says that any MB-approved tire is OK but he cannot/will not give me a list.
1)Does anyone know of or have a link to such a list? 2)Has anyone ever had a problem returning a car with standard brand tires of the appropriate size and performance rating?

| Electric adjustable seat Roger 09:31:15 |
| | Hi I have a question about the electric adjustable seat in a MB 300 1993 (I think, it's my mother-in-laws). The seat is stuck in it's very back position. When I try to move it forward nothing happens. When I move it backwards it just "jerks" a little. Please help. I need at least figure out how to release the seat so it can be moved forward manually. Thankful for all the help I can get.

| smoking is bad Greek_philosophizer 21:48:30 |
| | Smoking in a Mercedes Sprinter carrying gasoline powered equipment is REALLY bad. . . . http://www.midsussextimes.co.uk/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=516&ArticleID=1671317 . MEN FLEE BURNING VAN ON A23 TWO men are recovering from serious burns after their van caught fire on the A23 near Albourne. Police believe one of the men lit a cigarette, which ignited petrol vapours in the vehicle and set it alight. The men managed to drive their Mercedes Sprinter into a ditch and jumped out, rolling on the grass to extinguish the flames. The incident happened just before 4pm yesterday on the north-bound carriageway and caused long tail-backs in both directions. The van, belonging to a firm in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, had been carrying industrial equipment including four leaf blowers containing petrol. The men told police they had smelt strong petrol fumes before the fire started. Fire fighters from Hurstpierpoint led by Edward Bunn had just dealt with a minor lorry fire in Albourne and arrived on the scene within two and a half minutes. Paramedics in a passing ambulance saw the blaze were already attending to the two men when fire-fighters arrived. Mr Bunn said: "They were lucky to survive the initial explosion and the impact of the crash. They had a soft crash and were able to walk out but if they had hit a tree or a sign they would not have survived." The northbound carriageway was closed for more than three hours while fire crews from East Sussex, Hurstpierpoint and Keymer dealt with the blaze using additional water from a water carrier sent down from Burgess Hill. The two men were taken to a specialist burns unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead where their burns, although serious, are not thought to be life-threatening.

| Second gear shift on R107 PaulG 20:18:27 |
| | Hi all,
I was just curious if my car was supposed to do this, or if something is wrong. It doesn't sound normal to me though. The car in question is a 1982 euro 500SL. If I have the gas pedal floored while the car is in second gear, when the car reaches redline, it doesn't just shift to third. The rev-limiter or something engages and it will just hang in second gear until I let up on the gas a little. Does anyone else's car do this? I've never driven another SL, so I have no basis for comparison. Thanks.

| Proceedure to change evaporator 1981 300sd Guest 03:51:39 |
| | I don't know why I like this car so much but I do, it's a love hate relationship. I have been beating the problems out of this car one at a time and now when I think I am at the end of any thing else that could go wrong I find that I have no AC. The R12 is all gone suddenly last week. I am in the HVAC business for a living and work with air-conditioning every day but not on cars. I have determined that I have a leak in the evaporator. There is a strong detection of refrigerant coming from inside of the evaporator box. There are no leaks about the expansion valve, I am getting a strong detection from the openings of the evaporator housing and the detector will go off when sampling the air from the vents when the blower is first turned on. I am quite surprised that a copper evaporator could leak but it seems mine is leaking. Not wanting to put more R12 into this car at this time, I have blown out as much mineral oil as possible and replaced it with ester oil then charged with 134a for now the car cools OK but I am sweetening the charge every 3 days to stay cooling. My plan is to replace the evaporator and re-service the system with R12 when the system is leak free. Now to the part I need help with, this looks like a hell of a job, as best I can see the entire insides of the front of the car will have to be removed in order to get at this evaporator. I have looked at my Benz Shop Manuel CD and can find no instruction on this procedure. I am hoping that someone has in print the step by step procedure for this job or If any one has actually changed an evaporator in a 126 body before could they tell me what they can tell me about this job?
Any help will be seriously put to good use, Bruce Buchanan

| | Is anyone familiar with the fuel octane adjustment on the dual Solex carburettors for the six cylinder. It is an adjustment knob just right of the choke and only turns approximately 180 degrees. I suspect it fine tunes the rich/lean mixture but I've not found any specific literature on it.
Thanks

| Why buy diesel when vegetable oil is cheaper Greek_philosophizer 17:00:16 |
| | http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/23/automobiles/23FRY.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
As he sees it, even paying full price for new vegetable oil is better than buying fossil fuel. "If I don't have enough filtered used oil, I'll go out and buy new oil for my car," he said. "I can get vegetable oil for $2.45 a gallon, and diesel fuel goes for $3.09 around here - and that's not counting the additional cost of what it does to the environment.

| Oil Change, Internal Cleaning After a Mistake. MMansilla 14:07:50 |
| | In the last 5 oil changes the used oil was extracted with a manual pump, by the oil cap on top of the engine. They did it that way because the bottom drain plug head was rounded. I didnґt know it until I saw them during the last change. Welding a bolt on the drain plug was the solution, but the dark sticky mixture that came out from the bottom of the engine got me worried. Though now the engine spins more smoothly, I would like to know how to clean it deeply. Thanks
