Clutch noise and belt

Pat 29 March 2005 09:03:16
A while back, someone answered a question about clutch squeal and attributed
it to a serpentine belt.

I bought a shop manual and can't find anything about a belt associated with
the clutch.

Can someone help?

Right, when you let the clutch out it 'torques' the engine (it> twists / turns slightly) with the flexibility of the motormounts> and could slightly change the tension on the belts.

It's mostly inertia. Accelerating the engine as you start out can
cause the engine to rev up faster than an alternator or AC compressor
can accelerate with a loose and slipping belt.

This is easy to test with a warm engine and the car in neutral and the
AC (if so equipped) on. Punch the gas a couple of times and see if you
hear the squeak.
