installing transmission

Rjh44 15 March 2005 09:47:43
Hi all, My transmission crapped-out a couple weeks ago so I decided to have
it rebuilt. the Haynes CJ manual sez "transmission and transfer case is
removed as a unit" OK so that's what I did. When I re-install the
transmission I would like to do it seperately then after it is bolted on
lift the transfer case up and bolt it on..... Is there anything wrong with
this plan? (It's a 1986 CJ7 4 cylinder 4speed manual trans)

That's the only way I've done it. Except when swapping the
transmission and transfer as a unit.

I do not believe you can get all the bolts back into the t-case if the
tranny is already in place. Could be wrong there, but seem to remember
having a hard time taking them apart on the ground, let alone under the
body.
