Help re charging problems

Cherokee Boy 9 February 2005 00:42:00
 Hi Gang:

I just put a brand new HD battery in my 89 Cherokee LTD a few weeks ago.

I found the battery completely dead last night (Monday) after a long drive
on the highway on Sunday. I may have left the interior lights on - I
probably left them on - I can't remember and I didn't notice where the
switch was set last night when I found the battery was dead.

Seems kind of odd to me that leaving the interior lights on would drain a
brand new battery in about 24 hours. I'm sure I've left the interior lights
on before without draining the battery that quickly.

I'm thinking that maybe I have another problem (like a faulty rectifier or
???). I'll check the drain tonight when I get home, but I was just
wondering if there are known problems with an 89 vintage Cherokee that would
cause this behaviour.

Thanks for any advice.

A dome light can and will drain a battery faster if you live where the
winter is white and cold.
As for a volt meter, a battery can still read 12V's but not crank the
engine (however the interior lights may still work).
