Billy Boat preview For Big Phoenix Race

 PHOENIX, Friday, March 8, 2002 - Phoenix resident Billy Boat will
carry the colors and team logo of the World Series champion Arizona
Diamondbacks on his No. 98 CURB/Agajanian/Boat­ Indy Racing entry
in the Bombardier ATV Copper World Indy 200 on March 17 at Phoenix
International Raceway.


1998 Indianapolis 500 pole winner Boat drives the No. 98 CURB Records
Dallara/Chevrolet/F­irestone in the Indy Racing League. He finished a
career-best fourth in the Indy Racing League point standings in 2001.


"Billy Boat is a hometown racer who runs his own team out of Phoenix,"
said Scott Brubaker, Diamondbacks senior vice president of sales and
marketing. "He's sat on the pole at Indy, finished fourth in the
championship last season, and he's as much of an athlete as you'll find
in any sport, anywhere.


"The Arizona Diamondbacks were proud to support Larry Dixon in Don
Prudhomme's car at last month's drag races, and we are proud to be with
Billy Boat as he races his Indy car. We think racing is important in
Arizona, and we want Billy Boat to get another championship trophy for
the state of Arizona."


Boat is co-owner and driver of the CURB/Agajanian/Boat­ Indy Racing team,
based in Phoenix. A graduate of Arizona State University, Boat started a
performance exhaust business in 1986 and began racing in 1989. He made
his Indy Racing debut in 1996 and became a team owner last year.


"I've raced for a couple of different teams," Boat said, "but I've
always wanted to have my own team, based here at home. Arizona has a
strong Indy Racing heritage, but there hasn't been a championship team
from Arizona, including the driver, since the days of Jimmy Bryan and
Clint Brawner.


"We think we have the team that will earn us a championship, just like
the Arizona Diamondbacks. We're excited to be carrying their colors."


Boat's car will be painted to match the Arizona Diamondbacks team
graphics for this race only, featuring the Diamondbacks' logo and an
illustration of the World Championship trophy.


The car will be unveiled to the public at 6:30 p.m. (MST) March 14 at
the Arizona Center, with a special appearance by Arizona Diamondbacks
third baseman Matt Williams. The Diamondbacks' championship trophy also
will be on display.


Tickets for the Bombardier ATV Copper World Indy 200 are
now available by phone at (602) 252-2227; on the Web at
www.phoenixinternat­ionalracewaÂy.com or at the Phoenix International
Raceway ticket office, at the Arizona Center, 3rd Street and Van Buren,
in downtown Phoenix.
