Race excitement reminded me of two other famous street races: Festival of Roses race on New Year's Day in Pasadena and the Macy's Race in New York every Thanksgiving. Probably faster average speeds in Pasadena. Both of those events had lower attrition than St. Pete.
Its so sad that 21 drivers of varying incompetence in professional racing are allowed to screw up an entire racing series. Oops, forgot... There ARE only 21 drivers....
I wonder if there was more "metal-to-metal" contact in St. Pete or Bristol?
