battery corrosion

Disallow 4 May 2005 07:16:26
 Hi,

I replaced my battery with a Canadian Tire special
last year in March. I looked at it today, and
it is corroded super bad around the battery
leads, and is even creaping down the battery.
System is charging at 14.4V (in spec according
to haynes) so I don't think its an alternator
prob. And nothing goes dim or anything when
i put it under load or slow down.

Any ideas?

Somebody broke the case/terminal seal through mis-handling.

A thick baking-soda/water paste will solve your current problem. To keep it
from coming back, you can either replace the battery, or get those felt
donuts that are impregnated with an acid-neutralizing solution. UAP should
have them.

Slathering Sil-Glyde or other hi-temp grease may also sufficiently prevent
atmospheric oxygen from contacting the acid from the existing battery.
