transmission shifting

Braxmed 7 February 2005 07:29:19
i have a 97 Accord Coupe SE w/ an automatic transmission. it has 118,000
miles on it. the problem is that it shifts hard. like, i can feel it
shifting EVERYTIME it shifts. i've changed the transmission fluid at the
Honda dealer several times now and so i know it's not the fluid. any
suggestions?

Hondas shift hard. It prolongs the life of the clutches. You will feel
every time it shifts. It shouldn't jar the teeth out of your head though.

I thought you were going to say you had it done at Sears / MonkeyLube /
Canadian Tire. You're absolutely sure your dealer put in Honda Z1 ATF ?

so, automatics have a clutch? i know i sound REALLY dumb for asking that
but please just humor me. and i don't think i should feel it regardless!
it should be smooth. just like my mom's 2000 CR-V and my dad's 98 3.0CL
Premium. i have friends who have the same year and theirs shift
wonderfully. can't even tell it's shifting. have to watch the RPMs, or
listen.

Yep, it's got clutches inside. I was suggesting you check your reciept
to see if they billed you for Honda Z1 tranny fluid. If you use anything
else (generally) they will shift like slamming a door . . . Wham.

Your throttle pressure cable might be a little tight. It could make the
tranny think you are pressing harder on the accelerator than you really are.
Under light throttle pressure at what rpm is it shifting from 1st to 2nd and
from 2nd to 3rd?
