1995 Cutlass Ciera Directional Light Problem

 I'm having repeated trouble with my driver's side left turn signal. I
really have to push the bulb firmly into the socket to get the turn
signal to work. The regular light works fine; it's only the
directional part of the bulb that works in fits and stops. Sometimes
it works for awhile, stops working, and then stops agaon. Is this a
socket problem or do I have trouble further up in the column?
