Favorite Movie Cars?

Collector Car Central 25 April 2005 18:47:34
I am in the process of building a webpage that will showcase famous cars from Films and TV. I was just curious as to what some
favorites were, especially some of the more obscure ones. We all know about the Bandit's 77 T/A, but what about Joseph Bottoms'
"High Rolling in a Hot Corvette".

I would appreciate it if some people would share their favorites to help us build the page right.

Thanks
CCC

Better yet would be a page dedicated to cool but unknown cars.
There are a million "cool car" sites that cover the same
hundred or so vehicles, so be different.

Hate to mention the F word here but the Mustang Steve McQueen drove in
Bullit (1968) or the Charger from the same movie. This is the best chase
scene of all time.

A very obscure film of which I forget the name but it was driven by the
thief who robbed the bank later in the picture. Saw it on TV the other
night. Besides, the 1953-54 Studebakers coupes were decades ahead of their
time in styling and innovation.

I would vote for the car in the movie "Bonnie and Clyde". Not sure what
model it was, but it was a 1920's vintage car.

I have seen that movie at least twice, and the cars speeding up and down San Francisco hilly streets was fabulous IMHO.

Nightmare, because of his bad memory could remember the TV show called
Full House ( shown on TV LAND channel ) and the red 1961 or 1962 Olds
Starfire convertible.

Another one ... from the Southern Cult Classic, "Thunder Road" (I can tell
the story, I can tell it all. About the whip-poor-will who ran illegal
alcohol) ... the 1949-51 (?) Ford transport coupe of Robert Mitchum.

The Batmobile was based on the Futura Show car. The F-Glass bodies were
laid up in molds pulled from the show car. There were a total of 5 built
with a couple of "parts" cars being built after the show went OTA.
There is a website out there someplace that gives the entire story.
George did a LOT of TV/Movie cars.
Batmobile, Green Hornet, Munsters Koach, Munsters Dragula (aka Coffin
Banger), The Car, SuperVan are just a few.

Rascal,

Actually our 1962 World Book Encyclopedia has a picture of a 1957
Lincoln Futura that looks like the Batmobile.

True, but that same design actually goes back to 1955, Barris I am pretty
sure used the 1956 as the base.

Good call. My favorite movie for many years until the likes of
'Bullitt', 'Vanishing Point', Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry', and the other
cool car flicks.

Norm Grabowski's T-Bucket, Kookie's car in '77 Sunset Strip', that
pretty much started the popularity of them:

Thanks

I like Columbo's 1959 or perhaps 1960 Peugeot 405 Cabriolet. :) Being a fan
of that show, the car was the scene of some humorous comment in some
episodes, and the car was in dilapidated rumpled condition, much like
Columbo himself.

You're a few years older than me. I apparently tuned into it more
often than you did. I don't remember any particular episodes, just
Kookie and the T-bucket. I've seen Grabowski at several national
streetrod events through the years and a friend or two of mine have
spent some crazy hours with him.

Boss Hogg's Convertible was actually a 1969. Just some slight differences
in grille and tail lights were the only changes between the two years. I
owned a 70 DeVille at one time and still miss the car.

I did not see the whole move Thunder Road, but I seem to remember a 1957
Ford Fairlane 500 2-door hardtop.

If I remember correctly, that was Gene Barry's ATF car. But it has been at
least 35 years since I saw the movie.
