Trans Valve Body broke (exploded?)

Guest 22 April 2005 19:51:59
I posted earlier about my '95 4T60E transmission and what I should do.
Well, another is in and the car shifts great. I suspect there was a
problem for many thousands of miles, but I just thought it was the cars
character.

Anyway, they found a nice large chunk of metal in the pan apparently
from the valve body giving up.

Can this be contributed to normal wear? 144,800 miles almost exactly.

With the old trans, it shifted hard.....like there was less
synchronization going on. It would just "pop" into the next gear,
particularly on upshifts at low throttle input. (although all upshift
were "popped" into gear)

Some of the 1995 4T60E transmissions have a reverse reaction drum that is not heat treated. These will come apart leaving you without reverse and in my case, unable to drive over about 25 mph. My friend tore the tranny apart and changed the reverse reaction drum. Parts of it were in the trans pan. The trans also made a lot of noise when it was broke, it sounded as if a hammer was banging on the case when the car was running in park.

hey i too recently lost my reverse and found peices of it in the pan. The noise was less after it exloded it was more like a loud rattle. prior to it actually going out I had no problems was no noticeable issues with the vehicle with the exeption of a then unidentified exahaust leak. mine was also the 4t60-e. I will also say that at almost 2500 to put in a remanufactured duplicate, well its just not worth the value of the vehicle in most cases. In mine I am gonna spend the bucks for a remanufactured dino tested tranny with an on site after instalation dino test. finding the right place to get it done is a chore and I'm curious how much it cost you and your friend to do it and how long did it last after you were done?
