Ferrari's special race fuel for Spain

Brian 5 May 2005 16:21:21
Ferrari's engine will pack more punch around Circuit de Catalunya. Oil and
fuel partner 'Shell' said a new F1 fuel, SL0907, will increase power of at a
maximum of around 20bhp for the Spanish grand prix.

It is believed Ferrari want to push Michael Schumacher's new Spanish-spec
unit to the limit because Monaco, scene of the next race, is the tour's
gentlest on an engine. The new fuel comes amid calls to ban special fuel
which is adding increased costs to F1 and putting the smaller teams at an
even greater disadvantage.

They should make the teams trot to their nearest commercial filling
station on a Friday morning ...

Won't Schumi be on a new engine for Monaco?
(is there any place that lists if a driver raced with the engine for first
or second time?)

I thought it was a new oil..

"Ferrari's oil supplier Shell will introduce their second new oil in two
races in the hope to boost the Italian team's chances of victory at the
Spanish Grand Prix.

The new SL909 will be the third generation of engine oil to be used by
Ferrari this year and Shell are predicting "significant" horsepower
gains for the Barcelona race.

Shell said it will retain the fuel blend used at the San Marino Grand
Prix.

Ferrari are still seeking their first win of the season."

Won't Schumi be on a new engine for Monaco?

I presume he kept the old one after retiring on lap 13 at Bahrain.
Sensible thing to do really, allowing flat out racing at Imola (he
certainly had more revs left than Alonso at the end) and Spain.
(is there any place that lists if a driver raced with the engine for first> or second time?)

No idea.

I'm considering adding this to GLIBS. Anyone volunteering to collect the
data (and credit)?

You could look that up at FIA's webpage in the scrutineering report for
Imola.
There is stated who started on a new engine in Imola, so you can figure
out who starts on an old one in Barcelona. .

Admittedly the report is hard to find:
- go to www.fia.com
- media center
- press information
- select the GP on the right menu
- the scrutineering report can be found at the bottom of the page.

Thanks Oliver!

So according to the scrutineering report, Button's car was weighed 3 times
before the race...
