M. Schumacher discussing extension of contract with Ferrari past 2006

Federica Massagrande 21 April 2005 19:04:35
From today's GsD online (article is quite long, so I am summarising a
lot):

M. Schumacher said that he and Jean Todt are discussing extending his
contract past the current end-of-2006 deadline. Another extension
would mean that M. Schumacher would race at least up to the age of 40.
He has said that he will not join another team after Ferrari, so he
will presumably retire from racing at that point.

Talking about who may replace him when he finally puts away his racing
helmet, M. Schumacher said that if Ferrari decided to hire Fernando
Alonso, it would be a very good decision. However, he believes that
Ferrari is not really interested in Alonso now, and that all the
ruumours about it have been fuelled by Flavio Briatore who, by doing
so, is keeping media interest on his driver and getting better
sponsorship for him.

M. Schumacher also said that he thinks that Alonso, Raikkonen, Massa
and Webber are all high-quality drivers.

I guess Trulli and Montoya would be next on the list, with Ralf,
DC, Barrichello, Fisichella, and Heidfeld following.

Anyone want to play rank the drivers?

Looks like all the talk about his retirement has him rattled if he feels he
needs to create this publicity.
