I thought the actual racing was pretty good, all close stuff. but I was
surprised at the 12 car feild. Although I think I heard more cars will be
entered at later races. what the hell happened to the Independants, 1
team!

If you're going to complain about something at least get it's name
right, its the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).
What utter dire crap............... sad really.....

Must have been watching some different races to me today then. Yes, the
car count was low but I saw all 3 touring car races (as well as most of
the support ones - thanks MotorsTV!) and each of them had battles that
were enjoyable and worth watching.
I thought the actual racing was pretty good, all close stuff. but I was>surprised at the 12 car feild. Although I think I heard more cars will be>entered at later races.

Yes, there are at least another 4 cars expected at future rounds. The
Lexus team didn't get their second car built in time and teams like GA
Motorsport failed to get the funding in place in time for this weekend.
what the hell happened to the Independants, 1>team!

There are 8 independent teams entered for the championship but only the
highest placed finisher gets a prize in the presentations. Just happens
that today they were Team Halfords who also won races!

If you are going to comment on a series at least get it's name right, it's
the BTCC.

Secondly, were you watching an entirely different race to me? The racing up
at the front was fantastic close competition for the lead the whole time.
Sure there wasn't a vast number of cars, but the racing was just as good as
ever.

No didn't watch that, but watched Moto GP, now that was fun. Last lap
fighting, as though they where on push bikes, glad when they had finished so

MotorsTV cover all of the races live, in fact they show the whole day
including all the support races. ITV will be showing most of the races
either live or in highlights packages.

Next round in the series is 1st May at Thruxton but MotorsTV will show
the Donington races a couple more times before then.

ITV are supposed to be repeating their coverage late at night mid week
so worth looking through the TV listings.

Felt the same way. Just two makes really in it. Never been the same since
the late nineties when eight makes fought it out.

14/4/5 at 0305 on ITV1, it's listed as 1h20 compared to the original 1h30

Yeh i got to watch the Moto GP an all but missed the BTCC and the WRC.
Rossi and Gibernau were the nuts in the last lap.Its good to see Rossi
really having to fight for a victory for the whole race.
I really didnt think he was gonna do it and then the move on the second last
lap came and i was amazed he managed it to say the least. Then Rossi made the
mistake on the last lap and well it was just some of the craziest racing i
have ever had the plaesure to watch.I am not ashamed to say it had me out of
my seat jumping up and down in my front room :o)

Their should be 18 - 20 cars by Brands which is the third race I think,
so its a little premature for anyone to write of the BTCC just yet,
although IMO the race was still fantastic despite the small grid.

Saw bits of it, flicking between Motors TV and the WTCC and GT racing
coverage from Monza on Eurosport 2. The BTCC racing tends to get upstaged by
the support races IMO, and the reverse grids and 'success ballast' silliness
gets on my nerves a bit.

Still, next weekend is DTM, which is *proper* touring car racing....

Nah, it's high-tech road-course NASCAR. Near-spec chassis with
minimal relationship to "production" cars, near-identical engines,
and bodywork that looks vaguely like the real thing. Good *racing*,
but to me, the WTCC is the "real thing".

The current DTM reminds me more of Group 5 silhouette racing from the
70s/early 80s than of any kind of "touring car racing" - even Class 1
from the 90s.

Guess I won't bother going to Thruxton

Not only did I sit through the BTCC race, I did it from a cold hill
overlooking the Craner Curves, Redgate, The Old Hairpin and the straight
between McLeans and Coppice. I was also there on the Saturday, Freezing my
nether regions off (Only time I can remember being colder was in July last
year, watching the MotoGP from the Melbourne Loop!!!) and watching the cars
Qualify.

I will be going to Oulton Park when they come here later in the year, May go
to Silverstone and Croft, and am very likly to be going to Knockhill and
Brands Hatch also. If I lived closer, I would go to Snetterton and Thruxton
too, but not Mondello, as that circuit doesn't really float my boat as they
say (Maybe it's one you have to actually go to?) So that's 6 out of Ten
rounds I am going to, or likly to go to. I think that's not a bad strike
rate for watching utter dire crap, but then maybe I am watching someting
other than yourself?

I would like there to be a few more cars, but then all that would really do
is give me some racing to watch when the lead cars have gone past... At
Donington and Brands, from where I sit or stand, you can see most of the
track, so loose the secondary battles in following the lead ones! But I
understand the casual fan feeling that it is not impressive because of the
number of cars racing. But is the Porsche Cup impressive? They have less
cars than the BTCC, and the Seat cup does not have many more, but again
produces some impressive racing. I think quality is better than Quantity.
Would be nice if some of the other WTCC spec cars would come over and race
in the BTCC.

Anyhow, all of the above is only MHO, so no worries if you disagree, but I
for one am glad I missed the MotoGP, WTCC, BSB, WRC and CCWS (CART) to go
and watch.

Have a good life.

Nathan.

There is some doubt as to whether or not they will be there.

The team is/was to be run by Arena who ran Honda's in the BTCC, one of
the drivers has already been announced as Tom Chilton.

I was sitting there for most of the HSCC meeting at Easter and you're
right - it's fsckin freezing in the wind!

Not as cold as I was at the Old Hairpin during the '93 Grand Prix,
though. And wet. Very, very wet. Almost as wet as I was at the
International Trophy in '79... Trails off into oldfartishness...

The team is/was to be run by Arena who ran Honda's in the BTCC, one of>the drivers has already been announced as Tom Chilton.

Who apparently got the seat after negotiations with JH fell through.
With the current circs, it doesn't sound as thought Johnny has missed
out on much...

Wondered if you'd mention that. ;-)

A bit quiet on the Herbert front this year isn't it?

I just waved and the missus is looking at me like I've gone completely
off my trolley. And I didn't notice anyone waving back...

Ahh. You are still at the Dunlop Bridge then? If so, that's why you missed
me waving back. If not, then that's why I didn't see you waving...

(Delete the appropriate and it may make some sense!)

(And hello, good evening and welcome to your wife, she sounds remarkedly
like mine, who frowns at all sorts of things I do like that! )

(Oh, and I'm waving now, if that helps!)

Nah, it's high-tech road-course NASCAR. Near-spec chassis with> minimal relationship to "production" cars, near-identical engines,> and bodywork that looks vaguely like the real thing. Good *racing*,> but to me, the WTCC is the "real thing".

The WTCC has "real" cars, I guess, but the reverse grids are as annoying as
BTCC, and the short sprint races seem designed to encourage bumper car
tactics. Still, its got Zanardi.

Fair comment on the DTM cars themselves, but I do like the "insane road car
on steroids" look of the things. And the driver line up for this season
looks pretty impressive.
