Another one of those series, like A1 GP. I doubt it will happen.

Both series are looking pretty solid at the moment, unlike previous
vapourware championships (Premier 1, anyone?)

Yep, A1GP is very close to completion and being basically ran by
racing drivers. They're talking about using actual talents instead of
money drivers. Of all the stupid ideas, the bind moggles.

Seniors' competitions have proved a success in golf and tennis, with> stars of the past reliving rivalries.

senior tennis players and golfers don't get killed when their reflexes
fail.

Sounds like it would be a fantastic support race for select F1 weekends.
But that would be too obvious..

Too true.. You can't have *racing* getting in the way of the parades,
flypasts, "pit walks", "who's daddy's got the biggest wallet"
competitions and the like.. :-)

Negotiations are close to being concluded for 50-year-old Prost to>drive in the first race, at Kyalami in South Africa on 13 November.

Alain is making a full return to racing this year in sportscars so it
could be an interesting time for him!

I watched Prost on MotorsTV driving a Viper GT. He struggled a bit with
it; it's not exactly a car you finesse around the track...he came in
fifth I believe. Race was won by a black Saleen, which had been dicing
with a Maranello throughout. The Vipers were significantly slower than
those two, even with AP at the wheel... :)

The Viper is geriatric, in race-car terms, although is very popular in
French GTs.

A well-developed and driven Saleen or Ferrari should trounce it!
The Saleen is far closer to a Group C or GTP than to most road
cars, and the 550/575 have been honed over a period of years by the
likes of Prodrive.

I'm sure Alain is still a bit rusty, but I reckon he's not "lost it".

He and Jabouille managed 6th and 4th in the two races.

I see he's down to race the Viper at Pau next month - a GT race there
should be pretty mind-blowing!

You forgot the best of the lot - the parade of flags. Mind you, you'd
have to go some to top the demonstration runs by JCBs (or local
equivalent) that we "enjoyed" at Moza in 1995...
