My uncle went to it, he lives in Bahrain. Anyway, he took water with him, and it was confiscated on the way in, and they were charging 500 times the normal rate for water inside the track! One of the hottest races ever and they were confiscating people's water!

They confiscated water at the Melbourne GP too. Why we allow that to be legal, I don't know.

Its the old Sponsors product only routine, not nice, but its a condition of entry so we have to wear it.

They only confiscated water in Melbourne if the bottle was opened. They were OK letting me take in bottled water with the factory seal intact, but didn't let my normal refillable water bottle in. They are concerned that it is not actually water in the bottle.

Indeed, can you imagine the gate crew sniffing all the bottles ? "Hm.. that smells a bit strong.." - "oh sorry it's just my/your/his/her BO". In AP at least there are numerous water fountains inside.

Nothing new. I remember going to see Pink Floyd at Wembley Stadium in '88 and having my water-cooler emptied of everything in a bottle - most of the food too. Much the same thing happened on seeing Genesis at Knebworth in '92 (a memorably crap concert for all sorts of reasons).

If that were the case they should provide somewhere for people to tip the contents away before entering and places to refill once inside. The whole idea of taking peoples water away or making them pay for water is disgraceful IMO.

A sensitive issue there!!!!
I'll make no bones about it, I was a big fan of Genesis (and some of their various offshoots) for many years. They were a great live band.
I first saw them when my older brother took me (he split with his then girlfriend a couple of days before and decided to take me) to see them in 1975 on their last tour with Peter Gabriel. It was the first live rock concert I saw - and it was bloody impressive to an 11 year old's eyes.
After that I saw at least one show on every subsequent tour - though I didn't make a habit of telling my school-mates that during the punk years (I saw the Buzzcocks, The Clash, Siouxie & The Banshees, The Stranglers (not really punk but...), The Jam (twice in one day), X-Ray Specs, The Undertones, Stiff Little Fingers... but none of them really did it for me).
No, the '92 Knebworth gig was crap because the sound was dreaful, the weather was iffy (but didn't rain), because we had all of our carefully plastic re-bottled alcohol taken at the gate, because we missed the Saw Doctors, because we didn't miss Lisa Stansfield, because we'd paid a large amount for the tickets.... but mainly, because it took over four hours to get out of the car park after the show.
A video of the show was waiting for me when I got home (it was shown live on MTV - another gripe; corporatism in rock?). At least the sound was better.
I saw Peter Gabriel at Wembley last summer (as I had the previous year). He renewed my faith

No we don't....
If it's not clearly printed on the ticket, or some reference of which you could be made aware, insist on a refund and walk away. Then write and let them know why.
We only have to wear it if we accept to wear it, and if we do, more fool us.

And of course Mike Rutherford used to play that lovely twin-neck> Shergold. Which prompted me to go out and buy a Masquerador!
Indeed - a much underrated guitarist and bass player in my view. And it's lucky he's such a tall bugger; that twin-neck (are you sure it wasn't a Richenbacher - maybe in the early years) would've look silly on a short bloke!
