The above link shows all first row starts by Senna, (87 in total).
Scroll down a bit to see which races.

That's a given, you just have to read Johhny Herbert's notes on that
on his website.

http://www.johnnyherbert.co.uk/biog/benetton.shtml

"I never had a problem with Michael - it was the team. He'd ask to
stay in the car for another two days at a test and they'd say, 'Okay
Michael, no problem'. At the four day pre-Silverstone test in 1995,
when I went on to win the race, I only did half a day's testing. I
think he'd had enough on the final afternoon, so I was allowed in.

"The trouble all started after I qualified fourth in the first race in
Brazil. Then we went on to Argentina, where I was quicker than him in
the first session. That night he told the team that he didn't want me
to see his data any more. The next morning he came over to me and
said, 'I'm sure you accept you'll have secrets from me and I'll have
some from you so you'll understand if I don't show you my data in
future'. But, of course, he still had access to all of my data. What
could I do about it? Nothing. I had no say in the matter."

Hmm. What would *you* call De Cesaris, Lehto and Verstappen? Herbert never
fulfilled his potential (to be the next David Coulthard?), and Brundle never
did win a race. I'm not quite sure how history will judge Patrese, Irvine
and Barrichello. Piquet was a very fine (if temperamental) driver - but was
that the highlight of his career?

Da Boss!

I think you'll find that Johnny came before DC so technically he
couldn't be the next DC.

He won plenty of races, just not a Grand Prix.

The best back-up guys in F1.

No, wearing the sooty puppet was the highlight.

Well, yes, I knew that - but the point remains valid because 1995 was his
only decent year (*because* Schumacher was his team-mate rather than despite
it?), and yet he still got fewer points than Coulthard! (And points
mean...?)

and his career never seemed to fully recover.

His F1 career maybe but he has gone on to win many sportscar races like
Le Mans and Sebring which are even tougher on a driver's body than a GP.

I've not heard much similar said about Senna either. And Prost aside he's usually been clearly faster than his> teammates - so why should he care?>
I don't know why so much is made of Schumacher's position of privilege> within Ferrari. When Berger partnered Senna at McLaren preference was> always given to Senna.

Bull, Berger says in his book 'the huuman face of f1' that he the same
treatment as Senna at McLaren, all the testing he wanted and equal
equipment. By 1992 he accepted Senna was the faster driver. He also talks
about why he left Ferrari in 1996 becuase he would not accept to be treated
as a #2 to Schumacher and that he didn't have any of that crap at McLaren.

On the contrary. I like to think I give evreybody an even hearing, but
I find, on my return here after quite an absence, to use T.S. Eliot's
phrase, the same "worn out common song".
