at least he was faster than the two Minard's the two Jordans and BAR's

I doubt if he lasts another race.

Is that your way of saying Formula America is ahead F1? Hardly something to
aspire to. So do you think the problem with F1 is that Bernie is trying to
dumb it down for the yanks.

Perhaps. But the racing is extremely close and exiting, with multiple
passes, wheel-to-wheel at 215+mph and a large collection of possible
winners.

And this year, they're gonna do some road/street courses.

Open wheel racecars running on walled ovals is the stupidest idea in
racing since, I dunno, tiller steering.

It's the only series where I'm in actual fear for the safety of the
drivers, wincing every time the commentators orgasm over cars rubbing
wheels at 200+ mph.

I don't actually find it that exciting. Fair enough, there's lots of
cars running close together at high speed, and they overtake a lot, but
it seems like as soon as someone gets a break on, there's a full course
yellow and they get reeled back in. It's a bit like watching the points
race in the Olympic cycling.
- Jones> Are you not entertained?!!

That could be the slogan for IRL (and yes, I do recognise it, fantastic
film).

The IRL is an insult. It appeals to the same simpleton's who enjoy NASCAB.
Almost all races have next to empty stands in the IRL, so nobody cares
about WWE style fabricated racing events where everyone is forced to be the
same.

Maybe, but on the 3rd of March they will have to turn left *and*
right at the same race for the first time.

Besides, people love fake racing, it's what the majority of formula
are after all. It all comes down to who guesses the best tactics for the
day while avoiding pile-ups, and what's better than that? 8]

NASCAR needs bigger sized cars, there isn't enough room to advertise on
them. Perhaps they should change the aero rules to include sandwich boards
on the side and giant blimp moored to the rear end. They all go at the
same pace anyway, so who cares how fast they are?

I know you're being sarcastic but I find it fun reading the adverts on
NASCARs.

Just last weekend we saw a car sponsored by 'Great Clips', throughout
the race we were convinced that they made/sold clips for keeping things
together, bulldog clips, paper clips, etc.

But no! After a trip to their website I find they're a chain of
hairdressers!

Got around to finding out who Lowe's were too.

"Most Unexpected Sponsor" goes to my local sprint car track, where one
of the 700bhp monsters was proudly sponsored by "Mrs Smith's Daycare"
--- true, at the Skagit Speedway in Washington State.

It's a 3/10 mile damp clay oval, that has been lapped at an AVERAGE
speed of 92 mph.

That or some bizarre kind of clip-art or film-clip service, but that
sounded a bit too preposterous for the Busch series.

**** Pete: I was a bit out-of-date with that lap speed. The current
track record is a 3/10 mile lap at 11.18 seconds, averaging 97 mph.
That's by Kasey Kahne in a 410cu.in. sprinter, one gear, no clutch,
beam axles. Makes you hold your breath when they toss the car into a
corner. When you walk across the track after the races, it's like
treading in "Plasticene" goo, and some people swear the traction is
actually better than on asphalt. The corners are banked slightly, at
15 deg. I'm just a-waiting for the season to start! The burnt alcohol
fuel smells so sweet, and the exhausts bubble blue 'pops' all the way
down the straight.

That smell is formaldehyde, a combustion product of methanol, and
while you enjoy the racing and your corndog it's cross-linking the
proteins in your lung tissues, predisposing you to irreversible
respiratory disease.

Methanol as a fuel should be banned already.

The fumes from evaporating methanol are just that, methanol vapor.

One of the combustion pathways of methanol (in an internal combustion
engine) results in formaldehyde ...That sickly sweet smell.

You want to talk about a mess, I turned on SpeedTV the other night

"trading paint" in bright dayglo yellow. Ridiculous.

This is the future of racing if the rednecks continue to buy more
