An engine question

Tim@Nocomment.Com 18 March 2005 07:45:16
Is it safe to assume that the teams can test with other engines between
races.
If they do that, are they using completely different cars or just
different engines?

Which brings up the question as to what "an engine" is.

Over in NASCRAP an engine is defined as the block, crank, and pistons.
Even with the one engine rule, the teams swap heads, cams, carbs, and
ancilaries every night, change oil every run session.

So, how did F1 define "an engine"?
