More stuff from the Formula 1 Yearbook

Brian Lawrence 9 March 2005 19:06:07
As well as the fuel consumption per lap the book gives various other data for
each 2004 circuit.

Fuel effect

This is the effect in seconds/lap for each 10kg of fuel (or any other weight
for that matter).

Melbourne 0.41
Sepang 0.39
Bahrain 0.40
Imola 0.36
Catalunya 0.37
Monaco 0.27
Nurburgring 0.41
Montréal 0.29
Indianapolis 0.27
Magny-Cours 0.31
Silverstone 0.37
Hockenheim 0.34
Budapest 0.41
Spa 0.58
Monza 0.31
Shanghai 0.45
Suzuka 0.37
Interlagos 0.27

The circuits are rated from 1 to 5 in each of 4 categories. One is the
lowest/lightest and five is the highest/hardest.

Tyre Brake Grip Down-
Wear Wear Level force
===================================
Monaco 1 3 1 5
Montréal 1 5 1 1
Magny-Cours 2 1 3 3
Budapest 2 1 1 5
Indianapolis 2 2 5 1
Interlagos 2 3 2 2
Imola 3 3 4 5
Hockenheim 3 4 4 2
Bahrain 3 5 4 2
Monza 3 5 5 1
Catalunya 4 2 5 4
Shanghai 4 2 3 4
Nurburgring 4 3 4 3
Melbourne 4 4 2 4
Spa 5 1 3 2
Suzuka 5 1 5 4
Silverstone 5 2 3 3
Sepang 5 4 1 4

The Power Circuits

The amount of time spent at full throttle.

%lap %race max
===================================
Monza 70.7 65 16.4
Melbourne 67 62 10.5
Hockenheim 65 63 14.9
Spa 65 60 22.0
Imola 65 60 9.1
Suzuka 64 52 16.1
Silverstone 62 59 11.2
Catalunya 61 57 12.3
Magny-Cours 61 55 11.5
Interlagos 61 40 16.0
Sepang 59.8 56 11.6
Nurburgring 59 59 10.2
Montréal 58 57 13.0
Indianapolis 56.6 48 22.3
Bahrain 55 60 13.0
Budapest 51 51 10.0
Shanghai 50 47 15.0
Monaco 43 40 8.0

Percentage of lap is obvious, but I'm a bit confused by what I have labelled
%race. The book labels this "Full throttle during race (% lap)". Max is the
longest time spent at full throttle in seconds - the main straight.

Is that "old" or "new" Hockenheim? I presume "new", because the old one
would surely be well into the 90% bracket...

It's the 2004-05 edition which covers the 2004 season - I'd assume new.

According to a 2001 interview with Mario Theissen,

http://www.grandprix.com/ft/ftdt044.html

So how long does the engine run at full throttle at a track such as Hockenheim?

"The first straight is about 16 seconds, the other three are between 10
and 15. So overall it comes close to 50 seconds at full throttle and quite
a part of it in top gear and at high revs. I would say it comes between 60
and 70 percent of the lap in the dry."
