Red Bull-Honda in 2006?

Apparently they have been having discussions and are rumoured to be close to
an agreement.

Is it me, or is it slightly odd that Mateschitz is so keen to dump
Cosworth, just when they seem to have got their act together?

Could spell trouble for Minardi if they were hoping to get a Cosworth 2.4L
V8. The cost of this years V10 was supposedly going to double if the Jaguar
sale didn't go ahead, they need a second team with their engine to subsidise
the R&D cost.

Economics - the Hondas will be about half the cost of Cossies.

How long can Cosworth sustain development under the new regime? What's
in the pipeline now is probably good enough to see a team through to
'06, but I think Kalkhoven and Forsythe were more interested in getting
hold of Cosworth to keep Champcar viable. And Cosworth isn't a "big
manufacturer" any more.

Of course, there's nothing to stop Honda badging the Cosworth engine now ;)

Pushing this thread into a slightly different direction:
Red Bull has spent a lot of money in last several
years by advertising their drink product very heavily
associated with auto racing. Seems like a good tie-in.
(Energy drink = youth / action = fast competition).

This year (presumbably higher cost) own their team.
And now, how accurate is what I am hearing about
their product being banned in some GP prime
advertising markets?
Bummer of timing? or Tempest in teapot?

Red Bull has had plans to start a f1 team for years what with their
driver search program. They just grabbed one ready made.
