A rarity: MS actually being overtaken without crashing into someone?? *PING Brian Lawrence?*

Ok, so Nick Heidfeld was just 'taking a look' and probably wouldn't have
pulled off a pass, but Schumi allowed the steering wheel to slip as Heidfeld
pulled out - end result Heideld has to get on the brakes and careens off
course.

We've seen this type of dasterdly deed pulled off time & time again.
So the question is:
How many times has Michael legitimately been passed on the racetrack in his
career (let's say '94 onwards).
And how many 'attempts at passing lead to an incident' has he caused?

Legitimate question - he does not get passed often!!

Brian Lawrence, you're the resident F1 passing stats-master - can you help?

Or how about this Schumi trend: its not often that Michael has
a problematic race, with spins, crashes, punctures or mechanical
failures, but it seems to me (without actually doing any
checking ;) that it often occurs when he starts from the back of
the grid.

So.. my premise:
Michael starting from the back of the grid will almost always
guarantee some further problem for him during the course of the
race, whereas starting from pole will ensure a trouble free run.

Is that different for anyone else?

Ummm... I won't argue with that but one thing I have noticed over the
last few seasons. Every single race weekend, MS spins off the track at
least once, *during* *practice*. Occasionally, he spins off twice, (not
often). The only exceptions since the beginning of 2003 that I can think
of are the Chinese GP last year and the Australian GP last weekend. In
neither of those race weekends, did he spin off during practice.

I suspect that MS hasn't found the "limits" of the track with his car
for the weekend and is trying too hard during the race and basically
screws it up.

MfG

Geoff.

Yeah, that seems kinda like common sense?
