Slick Tires

Caring about the last 5 minutes of qualifying

Being able to determine if a qualifying car might take the pole

A position readout that indicates # of milli-seconds apart the cars are

Pit crews that change tires

Passing

Team mates that are able to race each other

F1 is certainly more boring, and Bernie and the FIA have only themselves
to blame.

Bernie considers the lack of overtaking good because it lessens the chance of
damaging those expensive adverts on the car, that way more people can see them
and buy what they're selling.

The new rules are working well for the sponsors, F1 now rivals Blimp Races for
instant sponsor exposure, and now that they have the new qualifying rules,
anybody can get the extra advertising exposure by landing on the front row for
the start. It's a perfect world.

I was surprised to see complete pit teams in the pit for each stop. Seems
like they had the teams there as if to suggest they'd change tires if
needed, but I never saw tires. So why have so many guys out at the car?

perhaps they won't in future who cares? This race is a transition from one
system to another things will settle down when teams see what the effect of
the changes is.

Imbecile...

While they can't change tires at will, they can monitor and adjust
tires pressures freely.

Not only that, if the car arrives in the pits with a damaged tyre, they
can, and will want to, replace it as quickly as possible.

New qualifying rules? Having a second session on Sunday made little
difference to the grid... the lottery that we saw on Saturday could
just as easily (and did) occur last year when they introduced single
lap qualifying.

Single lap qualifying was meant to make it more of a spectacle, so
people watch it on the Saturday - who is going to make an effort to
watch it now, when under 'normal' circumstances, the positions on
Saturday may bear no relation to the actual grid?

I believe they were checking tires. Maybe removing stones or shards of
composite fibres that may have been picked up. They may actually have to
change a tire sometime. If a car gets a flat, I doubt they will be
forced to retire (pun unintended).

Won't they still need everyone there to change wheels as quickly as
possible in a wet/dry race.

good idea I am normally reluctant to use the kf except as a last resort.
Having said that exposing them as kids in diapers tends to shut them up
rather quickly...
