1/2 hour into the 1st practice of the season,

F2004: 15 of 17* 4 March 2005 04:40:49
...and not one real driver, from any team, has completed even a single
lap.

"Thank the fucking British, kids."

Yes, unless you count the 2 race drivers from Jordan, but they were 6
seconds off the pace of their own test driver, so it looked like some
restricted running for them to learn the track.

Otherwise it was just the 4 test drivers going around.

Picked up a bit later, although no real laps from either Renault
driver, Kimi or Michael in the entire session.

And the Minardis didn't leave the pits - by choice or by force I don't
know as yet.

But even though it's only practice - Luizzi and Red Bull - wow.

At one point well into the session he was over 2 seconds clear. He
wasn't running towards the end, when De La Rosa closed it to around
0.5 sec.

I'm hoping for some more representative running in the session this
afternoon.

Stoddart was in a meeting with Todt and about halfway through the
session came out, saying that Todt would give his OK if all other teams
do so before. He also said something about lawyers in New York, but I
don't know what.

Thanks Martin

From F1live.com:

Stoddart said Todt, who only arrived in Melbourne late Thursday, had
asked the controlling body FIA to become involved but they declined to
do.

"They told him it was a matter between Ferrari and Minardi and not the
FIA but they did confirm that without a letter from him the stewards
would not allow the cars to run," Stoddart said Friday. "I am now
waiting for the Ferrari lawyers in New York to construct a letter that
I can take to the stewards."

Stoddy said this letter should arrive before practice 2 starts, thus
allowing him to take part in the second practice. He was not exactly
optimistic about said letter arriving at all.

From Pitpass.com:

Q: The new tyre, aerodynamic and engine rules have been widely criticised?

Max Mosely: The tyre and aerodynamic rules for 2005 and 2006 were agreed
unanimously by the teams <snip>

So, the 7 team principals who aren't British also agreed, then.
