do F1 engines have camshafts these days?

Alex Boosbeck 23 February 2005 09:38:25
I remember back around 2001, all the talk was about having
engines without camshafts and have the valves operated by
electrics, and how this would lead to more powerful engines in
time as the technology was developed. Did they ever manage to get
it to work? I thought maybe this was why the Mercedes engine was
down on power (same as the first wide angle Renault) but it seems
that was mainly cos of the ban on the use of Berylium.

Alex.

It works, not fast enough for F1 and still far too heavy.

The ban on beryllium hurt brakes much more than it ever affected
engines.
