Might the GPWC Buy Circuits?

John Gibson 21 February 2005 18:49:53
OK, we all know that some of the race promoters are tied up with Ecclestone
beyond 2008 and the GPWC would need to arrange its own races in order to
hold
a viable championship.

So what if the GPWC started buying a few circuits and converting them to
current F1 standard without sticking a load of chiacnes/Tilke-isations all
over the place?

e.g. Watkins Glen; St. Jovite; Mexico City...

Not exactly cheap to buy a circuit, I know, but it means the ticket receipts
would go directly to the GPWC, and thus 80% to the teams.

Why current F1 standards?

And you think 20% of the (pre-tax!) ticket incomes would be enough to
maintain a circuit? And a circuit can't survive with just one race a
year. Why should GPWC bother to get involved in the circuit business?

Because the GPWC would fail to respect Ferrari's contribution to the
sport. It is unacceptable for McLaren and Ferrari to receive the same
payout, as there would be no F1 or GPWC would it not be for Ferrari.

Whoever said F1 standard is the only standard for a race course?

No sense to buy tracks. Simply get contracts in place, and go racing.

If a car crosses the line and there is not one other attending, does
it still make a noise ?

So the US GP of 1961 was never run, then?

...In a very real sense.
