What are we all driving these days?

I have sold my beloved Peugeot 205GTi due to my relocation to Japan,
but the silver lining is I have replaced it with an almost stock
Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R :)

My MkII RS2000 is in storage in Australia, pining for me I imagine:(

Currently tooling around in a rust-bucket Discovery (painted a lovely shade
of metallic light-blue (well, it was cheap)) in anticipation of the delivery
of a new Golf GTI in two-three weeks.

When the Disco gets too embarrassing I 'borrow' my wife's Honda Civic -
which is going into the garage later this morning for yet another
replacement passenger side wing-mirror (£115 a throw - second this year!).

Cheers,
Probert.

1996 306 1.9d. Blech. It's on it's 3rd engine (I didn't pay for the 2nd
one because it only lasted 7 weeks) in the 2 years that I've had it. If
it had any poke at all it might be an interesting drive. As it is I've
become one of those mindless A-B drones that tools around the roads
without taking any pleasure from driving. If I do any driving at work
it's a shagged Mondeo V6 that just loves to be revved. However, that
might be replaced in the near future by something that purrs a little
bit more...

Cheers

Boring I know, but practicle for going to motorsport meetings, can get tent

I'm still driving a Mondeo (it was cheap, ok) but starting to look for
something relatively cheap to replace it with (max 6k) which is as good
to drive (it handles very well, and has seen off the odd sports car on
my favourite bit of twisty back road - perhaps more due to driver
commitment than car ability but still ;)) but with a bit more power, and
a bit better reliability. Current ideas range from old Golf GTis to a
99/00 Audi A4 (the 1.8T) but really I don't know what I want!

It's been fully poly race bushes, it has Grp'N top mounts, Grp'A rear

spots, an auto bonnet... have I missed something... maybe Im sure, needless

Confused about 1 point.. I'm assuming the system itself blips the throttle,
or are you having to do some heel and toeing yourself?

On a closed throttle, you only get an "auto blip" if you change down
with the revs around 3500rpm or above....if you downshift with an open
throttle then the system will auto blip the throttle.
If you manage to rev match the downshifts (with H&T) then the box
changes down quicker.
The rate of deceleration also affects the downshift speed, ie the harder
you brake the faster the box will change when you pull the paddle.

Mine's a '96 Mercury Sable (don't laugh - it's paid off). It's a
long way from my late, lamented '86 Audi 5000S (singing bearing
or ring & pinion in the differential), but it is a good road car
- something especially useful when you live at least 95 miles in

I only said "Oh dear" because of the way the new, bloated Golf has so
far departed from the Mk1 and 2. My ex-g/f had a GTi Convertible Mk1,
it was a delight to drive, nimble and quick. Driving a Mk 3 was so much
less interesting...
