With all the xenospeak around here about no Americans in F-1,
I'm wondering- is this guy for real? Is he just a prop, or will we see him in a seat sometime soon?

"2002 Red Bull Driver Search winner Scott Speed had a big weekend in Barcelona, taking his first GP2
pole position and going on to step up to the podium in both races. Speed collected enough points
this weekend to move into the championship lead, tied with Heikki Kovalainen.

Speed qualified on the pole for the first race by a remarkable margin, lapping some .448 seconds
faster than the rest of the field. His race was hampered when a balky clutch got him off to a slow
start, but Speed fought back and was catching the leader in the closing stages of the race. He ran
out of laps to make a clean move, so he wisely brought the car home in second place, taking the
championship points.

The GP2 Series races on the same tracks and weekends as Formula 1 in Europe, staging an hour-long
race on Saturday, and a second race with a sprint format on Sunday morning.

The grid for the second race is formed in a novel fashion, with the top eight finishers from the
first race being inverted at the front of the field for the sprint race. With the inverted order,
Speed started back in seventh in the second race, but fought his way up to take third at the
checkered flag, just three seconds behind the leader. Speed has now finished on the podium three
times in four GP2 races, having suffered a mechanical DNF in the fourth."
