Very interesting! An initial part that struck me...

"Now the qualifying is, in my view, a mistake. It was proposed by, with all
fairness to him, our commercial rights holder, Bernie Ecclestone, it was his
idea, and the idea was that this would be good for the television on Sunday
morning, and on that basis it was let through."

I didn't realise it was Bernies idea.

The questions from the floor, covering the BAR cheating, are quite
insightful too.

funny that he took a slap at bernie, is he positioning himself for future
events like a big split in 2008? and he almost sounds reasonable , he double
talks like the politician he is.

Don't associate *him* with us Northerners! And I'd have thought butchers was
a southerners term? We don't use it round here mate!

Only on safety grounds, I think.

Perhaps, although I'm fairly sure that only applies to the
technical regulations. See clause 7 and 8.

However, the qualifying scenario is part of the Sporting Regulations,
so its possible the FIA have more rights there.

"Butchers hook" indeed - rhyming slang.

Well I shan't retaliate with a knock about Northerners. I would like as be
insulting me own kin given the number of ladies from up north I shagged
silly in my youth. It was as if they thought they had a duty to expand the
northern gene pool. Amazing what you could get for a bag of chips and a
savaloy in those days.

Interesting. A couple of points (after having read both MM's press
conference and BAR's submission).

In response to Michael Schmidt's question, MM replies "They’ve been pumping
out for years" and that everyone in the pit lane knows that's the only way
to ensure the weight is ok. But then in the BAR submission, Craig Wilson,
Geoff Willis and Mark Ellis said they have never in their experience known
the FIA to completely drain a car of fuel to weigh it, even when it was near
the weight limit. So who's telling porkies then?

Also, about the "is it empty" ... "yes" item that MM speaks of, it seems a
bit dodgy. In the BAR submissions they say that the Steward asked for a
normal "lifted out pump" to be used, and when it was completed asked "is
that it?", the fuel bowser guy replied "yes". Seems like the BAR guy was
bending the rules a bit by just replying "yes", when he knew (presumably)
that there was still some fuel left in there (just that it couldn't be got
at with the pump the FIA guy had asked for). Although I guess being an
"official steward" he should ask better worded questions than "is that it?".

Oh well, I think in future if *any* car is weighed below (say) 610kg, they
should pump all the fuel out, I wonder why they didn't always do this
before? I mean some cars must have weighed in at 601kg or something after
the race in the past.

So, I wonder how many teams added a bit more ballast to their cars today?

There is an easy way to conclude that the BAR boys are telling the truth
about 'never seen them request a full drain' before:

Mr de Groot and Jo Bauer were not aware of the 'hose tool' that BAR had to
suck up all the fuel in that compartment. They suggested pumping it (in an
open state.. dangerous), and then they suggested using a syringe to suck it
out, even requesting a measuring jug to put the 'new found' fuel in. Both
men are experienced and have been around for who knows how long - if
'removing ALL the fuel' been performed even once before, they would have
known the best way to drain it and would have requested BAR to bring along
the hose tool with them to Park Ferme. (BAR suggested the tool when they
realized the FIA guys had no clue what they were doing - as I'm sure any
team in that situation would have).

I find it more-than-a-tad worrying that one of the stewards, Mr
Gutjarh, should appear to be so technically inept as to be surprised
that there was fuel still in the collector system - of a car that had
just been driven to its parking place!

..shades of Smokey Yunick, was it not, who once had his NASCAR
automobile ripped to bits by the NASCAR tech boffins, including removing
the fuel tank....claiming they had found 20 illegalities in the
car...whereupon the intrepid driver said "make that 21" and fired up his
fuel-tank-less machine, and proceeded to drive away....
