Speedo markings???

Brad and Mia 30 April 2005 10:33:17
Hi all. Here's a weird one...

I've had numerous 5.0s. Love 'em. Today I noticed something I've never seen
before...

The car is a 93GT, Canadian model.

On the speedo, there are two small dots. One at 30kph and one at 40kph.
Then, one at 90kph and one at 100kph. Then one at 190 kph and one at 200kph.

These can't be shift markers, can they, cause they make no sense. I thought
the first one might be something for school/playgrounds (cause it fits) and
the second the 'preferred' speed for make fuel economy. But the markings at
190 and 200???

So I thought, shift points? But with the stock 2.73 gears, I can do a lot
more than 40kph in first and 100kph in second before I *need* to shift.

So what the hell are they there for??? Ideas?

Also, anyone ever take off the protective lens over the cluster? Mine is
dirty from the inside, but I worry if I take it off to clean it, it will
squeak when I put it back on....

Thanks all. Minus the trolls, this is still a good group.

Brad

Taking the lens off to clean is pretty easy. Just be careful popping the
headlight knob off, it has a tendency to break if you do it from the wrong
angle. It wont squeak when back on if you're careful.

No clue about the dots..

I believe they are factory calibration marks, used for testing.

I've seen them before too and wondered what they are for.
Hope you get an answer to this question, it would be nice to know.

I'm fairly certain they're calibration points. I was once told 1000rpm on
speedo cable equaled 60mph. They vary the input rpm and it has to fall
between the various marks.

That's the best answer I've heard. I'd ask Ford but I'm sure I'll get "I
dunno". That will instill a lot of confidence in me. :)

Ya know, I am just not thinking they are calibration marks.
The reason is, I have had cars with these. One car in particular had
progressive dots
1 dot - then two - then three. I thought that they may have been a shifiting
guideline too.
They were placed in what would ahve been an economically prudent place to
shift.

Wish I could remember the car. I've had so darn many that they all blend
together.
