Seat Covers

I have leather seats in my 2002 GT. Can anyone reccommend some good seat
covers to save some where and tear on the factory leather?

Sorry, I have no clue. (Never did, never will.) But I suppose you could wear
Chamois pants.

I bought a new Mustang GT Convertible with saddle colored leather interior
back in 1996.
It took 7 years before the leather started to look worn and another 1.5
years before the drivers seat ripped.
I even left the top down overnight quite often and yes it got rained on
sometimes. I never treated it with leather conditioner.
I would not worry about the leather.
It's been 9 years now and I just spent something like $650 to buy custom
(tan center, black sides) new leather at autoleathers.com.
A local guy is going to charge $450 to install it. A bit more than usual
because Ford glues their leather to the foam, apparently unlike other mfgrs
and apparently making it much harder for upholstery guy to re-upholster.
But hey, to me, it isn't much to pay once every 8 or 9 years, IMHO.
The question is: Do you want you and your passengers to sit on sweet leather
seats for 7 years or covers? Why get leather if you are not going to enjoy
it? Reminds me of an old lady I visited once when I was a kid whose
furniture was all covered in clear plastic.

If I was coming straight from the grease pit at Jiffy Lube, I sure
would not want to plant my butt on my nice tan leather seats, nor
plant my boots straight onto the carpeting. If I going to invest in
something nice, I'd want to take care of it so it would last. I've
used old blankets, sheets, seat covers, etc. To me it's worth it when
I take someone out for the evening or just for a ride, for the car to
look it's best. Of course, that's why I have a beatermobile....

And my great aunt had wall to wall wool carpeting in white for her
condo. She didn't cover the furniture, but she did have clear plastic
runners throughout the place.

I have always preferred red headed seat covers but have also found them to
be trouble prone and are generally high maintenance.

I live up in Canada and we get lots of rain. The last thing I would
want to be sitting on is a sponge rubber seat cover!. LOL, they don't
call them 'wet' for nothing....

I also run with the top off lots so sunburn on the seats is a big issue
too.

I just use the cheaper covers. The come off and wash easy and they dry
out really fast.

Wet Okoles are especially known for their colored seats fading quickly
and erratically if they see much sun. Not to mention how nicely they
soak up water if the water isn't wiped off soon enough. I wouldn't
waste my money on them. They look nice at first but that's it.

Dog hair sticks nicely to the neoprene:^) However it comes
off with those rolly-sticky thingamajigs. After trashing
the neoprene in a year I've switched to the cheap/washable
ones. They are more slippery for my dog tho...he almost
shot out the other side of my truck first time on them!

Yeah, and if you try to get rid of them, you still have to keep making

I'm looking into getting some seat covers for my new RSX to alleviate the
intense heat that is generated by the black leather whenever the car is in
direct sunlight for a while. I've tried using a sunshade on the windshield
but that only helps so much. I've also read some posts where people say
that the leather tends to crack over time, due to the UV exposure I guess.
So I figure that would be another good reason to cover them. Also the
leather is kind slippery (i.e. it's easy to slide around on it) and I'm
guessing that is going to get worse in cold weather.

So I'd like to hear from others who have gotten covers for their seats, how
they dealt with the issue of the side air bag, and what kind of material
they got (e.g. sheepskin, cloth, acrylic, neoprene, etc.). I know about
the Wet Okole ones but I'm not sure if I like them and they are a bit
pricey. I can buy regular ones and have a local upholstery place make the
holes for the air bag at $25 per seat. Just trying to get some good ideas
to help me decide what is the best way to go. TIA.

How have people fared with aftermarket seat covers? These
would be for my 1991 Civic LX. Its driver's seat cover is a
just a bit threadbare at this point.

Any thoughts on those pictured at the link below?

Those *look* OK, but I've found the most important thing (besides
durability of the cloth), is the fixing method, which is not visible
here. Too many aftermarket seat covers I've tried cannot be fixed in
place well, and tend to slide, bunch and pull up over time.

These you show appear to be cloth all over, which is preferable to the
Pennzoil ones that have just a layer of light, smooth cloth on the
non-seating surfaces.

Do yours have a layer of foam rubber on the underside? I find that helps
tremendously in keeping the cover from shifting and bunching.

Many of the seat covers I've tried are too small to fit properly over
the substantial side bolsters Honda tends to put on their seats. Once
you sit in the seat and press the cover into the back, either the
bolsters get squeezed, or the new cover tears.

My driver's seat has had a cover on almost since Day 1. The cloth (and
bolsters) are unworn, but are distorted from where the too-tight seat
cover has compressed the foam on the bolsters.
