Boulder CO: Red-light camera shows car thieves in act

Normally I dislike red-light enforcement by camera, but this is a good
one from the Boulder Daily Camera:
---
Wanted: Thieves in photograph
Red-light image released; car stolen from park-n-Ride

By Christine Reid, Camera Staff Writer

If you are going to steal a car, don't run any red lights.

Alex Laws, 25, of Boulder, had his 1995 Plymouth Neon stolen in
November from the Boulder RTD park-n-Ride at Broadway and 27th Way. He
got the car back a few days later after police found it, barely
scathed, in Westminster.

The case grew cold.

Then Laws got a ticket in the mail, for running a red light.

"At first I was kind of angry because I thought, 'I didn't do that,'"
Laws said. "Then I noticed the date and had a good laugh."

The ticket was dated Nov. 19 - the day Laws' car was stolen.

Accompanying it was a picture of two men cruising around in the Neon as
it caught the attention of a red-light enforcement camera at Arapahoe
Avenue and 28th Street.

The men are clearly visible in the shot, and they look as though they
have no idea their picture is being taken.

"I hope they get caught," Laws said. "I wouldn't want them to do it to
anyone else."

hah! I remember reading something in the paper a long time ago
(probably 6 or 7 years ago) about a guy who got "angry" at New York
City's red light cameras, after he got caught running reds a few times.
He decided to try to disable the camera by shooting it (you know, with
a gun), not knowing that the camera was bullet-proof (it is NYC
afterall!). Apparently, his accomplice (driver) was having way too
much fun watching his passanger shoot at the camera, that he didn't
realize he ran the red light. So the camera, still operable, snapped a
nice photo of the guy pointing a gun at the camera....license plate and
everything! Can we say, "oops?"
