Eastern KY-Central Appalachian roadgeek meeting -- one-month notice

H . B . Elkins 26 April 2005 22:03:00
It's coming up on one month until the Eastern Kentucky-Central Appalachian
Roadgeek Meeting, so I'd like to post a reminder.

WHAT:
Eastern Kentucky-Central Appalachian Roadgeek Meeting

WHEN:
Saturday, May 21, noon EDT

WHERE:
Reno's Roadhouse restaurant, US 23 north of Pikeville, KY (Coal Run Village)
http://www.renosroadhouse.com

WHO:
Roadgeeks, roads scholars, highway enthusiasts and others from the midwest,
Great Lakes area, central Appalachians, southeast, eastern seaboard and anyone
else within reasonable driving distance

WHY:
Why not????? ;-)

The site is centrally-located in the Appalachian Mountains, approximately a
two-to three-hour drive from major interstates such as I-75, 77, 79, 64, 81, 26,
40 and others. Pikeville is easily reachable from cities such as Lexington,
Huntington, Charleston, Bluefield, Asheville, Bristol, Knoxville, Louisville,
Cincinnati and others. There is a wealth of sites of interest to roadgeeks in
this region.

After eating, we'll tour completed and underway construction on US 119
(Appalachian Corridor G) between Pikeville, Ky. and Williamson, WV. You'll get
to see some of the challenges in building a new highway through a populated
mountain region.

Additional items of interest in the area that you may wish to visit on your own
on or before the meeting include the Pikeville Cut-Thru on US 23, Pound Gap
crossing on US 23 near Jenkins, Pine Mountain reconstruction on US 119 near
Whitesburg, Cumberland Gap tunnel on US 25E near Middlesboro, new construction
on US 421 near Harlan, US 460 (Corridor Q) construction in Pike County between
Shelbiana and Elkhorn City, Grundy town relocation on US 460 in Virginia, and a
few other projects.

Please RSVP to kyroadgeekreply@yahoo.com -- so far seven have confirmed their
attendance and two have sent regrets.

Detailed directions and a map of the tour will be E-mailed to those who plan to
come prior to the meet.

If you live within a reasonable driving distance of Pikeville, hope to see you
there!
