Sure, your best bet is to take the Durham Freeway to I-85. Take I-85
to NC 86, at the light at the end of the ramp turn left. Go about a
1/4 mile and you will turn left on Old NC 10. It's the first
intersection (that's not a truck stop) south of the interchange.

How did old US 1 get through Cary/Raleigh? I think I figured out that> it came through "downtown" Cary on Chatham Street and then entered> Raleigh on Western Blvd...is this true?

Back in the distant past, old timers told me that US 1 and US 64 and US
70 multi'd between Raleigh and Cary on Hillsborough St/Chatham St. In
downtown Cary US70 zigged over to Chapel Hill Road aka today's NC54.
Recall as you come into Cary that bend to the left on Chatham where you
can go straight under the railway - that was done to get US70 out of
downtown Cary. Meanwhile 1/64 went thru Cary and on Old Apex Road and
split near where today's US64 flies over Old Apex Rd/Salem St.

As far as Raleigh goes, at times US64 was on Hillsborough or Western - a
native swears to me that Western was an early attempt at a 'beltline' on
the west side of town...I'm skeptical of that. Anyway, I can recall
US64 Business on Western and signs on the Beltline with remnants of US1
markings for the Hillsborough exit. US1 went into town and headed north
on Old Wake Forest Road...I can show you where it split from its
multiplex with US401. US64 went thru and came out along New Bern Avenue.

Oh yeah - you know the wacky left exit off of Capital Blvd for Fairview
Rd? More than one native tells me that was for US70 to get over to
Glenwood Avenue in pre-Beltline days...
