55 MPH zones: "Wurtsboro Mountain between the Orange County line

in Monticello in the area of Exit 105", "the area around Parksville".

Most of the road, I'll wager; the only part of the road that may remain >>55 is the section near "Exit 98"; All the rest of NY 17 in Sullivan is >>freeway, and a good bit of it could be posted for 70-especially west of >>Roscoe to Hancock.>
I don't think there's any of Route 17/I-86 from I-84 to I-90 that>needs a speed limit below 65, the maximum limit allowed by state>law, but New York DOT is frightened of speed limits over 55.

Speaking of NY speed limits, why is I-84 from Newburgh to CT still
marked at 55 mph?

What's dumb about this is that all of these sections were posted 65
prior to 1974 -- *including* the stretch around "Exit" 98. Of these, I
would only leave the 98 section at 55 until it is upgraded.

The idea that Monticello is an urban area is ridiculous -- sections of
17 in Orange County that are now posted at 65 have far more "urban"
characteristics than Monticello.
