US-212 Construction Starts Now

 MN-DOT issued a press release today that hit the
newspapers about the road construction season starting.
One item of interest is that the long awaited US-212
freeway project west of Minneapolis/St. Paul is supposed
to start work on Friday.

This is a good time for sidewalk supervisors. There are
freeway projects underway on I-494 (Wakota Bridge and US-61
Freeway upgrade, Bloomington strip rebuild, Eden Prairie/
Minnetonka rebuild), I-94 3-lane project east of downtown
St. Paul, this new US-212 freeway segment, and the I-694/
I-35E "unweave the weave" project.

laptop, that the 35E/694 project was put on hold for a year due to the
federal funding situation. What they're probably referring to as far
as work this year is replacing the Edgerton St bridge, but the full
project won't be for another year.

In other MnDOT news, they've completed an Environmental Assessment for
MN 65 through Blaine. The proposal is to rebuild it either as 6-lane
expressway or 4-lane freeway from US 10 to north of MN 242, though
funding is only available right now for an interchange at MN 242.

I didn't understand that either. I think you are right, however.
When I looked at the project list for this year, the only
unweave the weave work scheduled is this one bridge.

The preliminaries for that were set at late '05 to begin with...the
heavy duty construction there was already planned for spring '06....
