Raleigh may ask for local bonds for roads

In October, Raleigh voters may be asked to approve $40 million for
road improvements that could tack an extra penny onto the property tax
rate.

The City Council is weighing the need for a new bond issue for
streets, the first since 2000 and the fourth since the late 1980s.

If placed on the ballot, the projects would be plucked from a $62
million wish list that includes widening Falls of the Neuse, Jones
Franklin and Lake Wheeler roads.

...

For years, frustration has been simmering over congestion around the
Neuse River Bridge.

Last year, the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization
recommended state funding for an $18 million project that would widen
Falls of the Neuse Road and divert it to a new, four-lane bridge.

The city's $5 million portion would go toward widening the road
between Raven Ridge and Fonville roads, and building the New Falls of
the Neuse Road over the river.

(This is one of the projects dropped by NCDOT in the latest TIP
revision, and a badly needed one on Raleigh's list.)

This can't be true; other folks in this ng say there's no such thing as
non-user revenues going to roads!
