New name for Westside road sought; any suggestions?
Branan Field-Chaffee Road considered confusing

From Times-Union staff

The First Coast Metropolitan Planning Organization is looking to rename
Branan Field-Chaffee Road, which runs from Jacksonville's Westside into Clay
County. And it's asking the public for suggestions connected to that part of
the region.

The reason for renaming the road is to head off potential confusion in the
future.

Originally, Branan Field-Chaffee Road was drawn to follow Chaffee Road in
Jacksonville and Branan Field Road in Clay County. But a few years go, the
state agreed that the Jacksonville route will swing to the west through
Cecil Commerce Center and connect with I-10, not follow Chaffee Road to
I-10.

So when that part of the road is built, there would be a Branan
Field-Chaffee Road exit at I-10 and also a Chaffee Road exit at I-10.

Ultimately, it would be up to the Clay County Commission and Jacksonville
City Council to rename the road.

"Hopefully, we'll get some legitimate ideas that are workable and make
sense," said Metropolitan Planning Organization spokeswoman Marci Larson.

Anyone with a suggestion can send it along with a brief explanation to
Larson by e-mail at mlarson@fcmpo.com.

Suggestions also can be mailed to the First Coast Metropolitan Planning
Organization, 1022 Prudential Drive, Jacksonville, 32207.
