Not much they can do about that hill that SU sits on top of to begin
with, short of moving the university to a flatter location.

On a related note, they could start by improving the neighborhood just
north of campus...between say Madison and Erie. Place looks like a
demilitarized zone, and gives Meaghan the creeps (doesn't help that she
has to see it every day, with the station being on Erie).

Looks like Cantor is going to have to accomplish bridging the divide between
SU and downtown Syracuse (among other places) without having to address the
most obvious of barriers --- Interstate 81. Using E. Genesee St. as a link
may be far easier to do than what one man set out to do a few years back,
getting the elevated section of I-81 knocked down. There isn't much you can
do with I-81, and I-690 for that matter; they aren't going anywhere. But
improving on downtown, SU, the SU Hill area, near the harborfront along
Onondaga Lake, some neighborhoods, etc., and Syracuse can become an
intriguing destination, as long as you don't mind snow.

Gentrification will be nice, but that will come hand in hand with improving
the employment situation in the Syracuse area.
