to an accident involving 50 vehicles. Both directions are closed to
traffic.

It's been the talk of Grand Rapids today!

So far: 85+ cars involved, about 70-ish of them directly involved in
collisions, the rest of them ditchings to the side or into the median.
One fatility, four serious injuries, 29 others taken to local emergency
rooms, the rest of the motorists boarded buses and were taken to a
nearby school to keep warm and so the State Police could get their
statements. Police say the highway will likely remain closed through
rush hour and into the evening.

According to WOOD-TV, US-131 has been re-opened.

I'm sorry to read about the casualties, and judging from the pictures
of the scene, it could have been worse. But there shouldn't have been
the losses that there were. People need to slow the hell down.
