From the article:
"The new Honda Accord shot backward after Dorothy Byrum got behind the
wheel and apparently stepped on the wrong pedal Wednesday."

What, those things have a separate pedal for reverse now?

That's some really poor writing, especially considering the source (AP).

"The open car door hit her 88-year-old husband, Robert, and the
salesman. Then the car struck the parked car, the tree and the wall. The
air bag deployed, and Byrum was not injured."

Maybe I'm just not familiar with current airbag technology (Magnulus?),
but WTH did the airbag deploy if she was hitting stuff in *reverse*?

Maybe she meant to press the brake but pressed the gas.

It shouldn't deploy if she was going reverse- my guess she shifted to
going forward at some point and ran into a wall/tree. Also, the airbag is
only suppossed to deploy if the car is hitting another object with alot of
force (it shouldn't deploy in a fender-bender).

One thing about older couples in Florida- sometimes the wife has much less
driving experience. Apparrently way back then women drove much less, some
not at all.

Apparently women didn't get to do as many thains as men, back in the
day. I got a new subject for you to study: social history.

FFS, couldn't you at least mention the headline?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Saw it already.
I guess their new state motto should be "Florida: don't give us to>Cuba, we make the rest of you look good.">

No,she stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake.(duh)
That's the usual cause of unintended accelleration.

And being so blasted close to their northern border scares the hell out
of me sometimes. Every time I turn on the news, something wierd and/or
sickening has happened down there.
